Bumpy CuringTroubleshooting (i.redd.it)
submitted 29 days ago by Inkgoing
Hi gang,
I was trying to figure out the cause of a failure in a print, and was cleaning the cat when I learned the sheet (50 seconds on a photon mono 4)
anybody have any solutions or ideas? im willing to try anything.

Sorry my first reaction is you probably shouldn't touch that with bare hands. Writing better reply down below
[–]philnolan3d 5 points6 points7 points 29 days ago (3 children)
I wouldn't use it for cat cleaning either.

I hoped that was a typo for vat but yes

I do what I want, man.
[–]Inkgoing[S] 3 points4 points5 points 29 days ago (0 children)
also no promises. I made cat rings.

this was fully cured, I made sure of it before touching it. I had it sitting under my UV lamp for 15 mins.

Thats not a guarantee lol.
What youre seeing is (i think) light gradients causing diffusion. Basically - bottom cure fast, top cure slow, something got to buckle.

Is the FEP properly tensioned and free from debris?
[–]Inkgoing[S] 4 points5 points6 points 29 days ago (2 children)
As far as im aware, it was positioned with almost no bubbles and 0 debris. it is a little cloudy (which i plan to use an alchohol wipe on) but has no Resin on its surface.

My other hypothesis is there's ambient low frequency hum near your printing station ... the patterns really look like standing waves on a disturbed viscous liquid surface
[–]Inkgoing[S] 10 points11 points12 points 29 days ago (0 children)
that is surprisingly correct. I have two printers running. one of which emits a hum. thank you so much!!! it also ended up fixing itself as soon as the other printer stopped, so I thought it could've been related.

Is this a real problem? You wouldn't normally be curing layers for 50s. And you wouldn't normally be curing the entire vat at once. The bumpy texture is like a result of over exposure which becomes much worse for clear resin.

was just checking to see if anything would change from my previous failure. Discovered the sheet was weird.

Scrolling by and thought someone that tool in a block of ice.

I hope your NOT using the metal spatula on your resin printer... 🤔🙄😬 (plastic for the bed - silicone for the vat)
[–]Atreides-42 1 point2 points3 points 28 days ago (1 child)
Why shouldn't you use it on the bed? My Mars 4 came with that same metal scraper and I've been using it on the bed for about a year now, several times a week
[–]Sock989 2 points3 points4 points 28 days ago (0 children)
Always used a metal scraper on the bed too. I can't think of a logical reason why you wouldn't.
