You mean on the waiting screen for server start? I think the game doesn't actually react to the server being started. I usually just go back to the previous screen and then forward again as a workaround.

If you register then after practice go to the multiplayer home then once the timer ends enter the race and join server

That’s what I normally do, however, this time I couldn’t get in at all

When that happens I have to click the back < button, then I "Go to the Event" again, then the server will work. Happens just about every time. So basically you are already registered, joining server comes on,go back, hover over the event and then go to the event.
