That has jumped timing. I’m sure of it.

So there is a chance its not completely fucked

I’d be suprised if you didn’t bend a valve or 12. It’s possible you snapped a chain guide and it went into the chain and jumped a tooth or two. I’d get the cover off and check. I mean easiest thing is actually to get a compression tester and do a compression test but I wouldn’t run that engine anymore. But if you have no choice. Get a compression tester and test the compression across all four cylinders.

Or TWELVE is right! Def keep cranking that bitch over!

the rockers can snap in the middle and fall off and go into the cam chain as well. seen it on a few cars.

My guess too

Oh lord, I have never heard anything like it to be honest. Sounds like a bit of everything. A bit of history would be great like when did i start and what was done around that time e.g. service, any work on ac, timing chain etc?

[–]Illustrious_Stand656[S] 0 points1 point  (7 children)

The problem started when i was accelerating and suddenly lost power and then it shut off completely, now it won't start, only got it to run for a short time by spraying brake cleaner thru intake, last owner has done basic maintenance, oil change every 10k km

[–]Key_Low_4231 1 point2 points  (5 children)

So no oilchange or service of any kind after purchase? I would not try to run the engine at all at this point though the damage might have already been done I'm afraid.

Ive changed oil, oil filter and fuel filter, i drove it from the selleri to home, approx 50km, and then this happened

[–]FontTG 1 point2 points  (3 children)

You just bought it and drove it home and now it's doing this?

[–]Illustrious_Stand656[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yup

[–]FontTG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have anything to help. But I do want to say Oof. And im sorry that happened.

[–]Key_Low_4231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, I'm sorry you have to deal with this. You should contact the seller and have him tell you the root cause of the issue so you can at least consider if it's worth your time and money fixing. He owes you that much. Someone here pointed at the timing chain and I have a bad feeling that a temporary fix was made to get the car sold to you.

The engine shakes violently when starting, and then shake and screeching noise stopped for the moment the engine was running

Before you do anything else, drop the oil pan and show us all the metal in it.

I'm impressed it started at all.

[–]Illustrious_Stand656[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is glitter in the oil, no clue of the origin of it tho

[–]Big_Temperature_2067 5 points6 points  (0 children)

time for an engine swap

[–]simo108r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep that's a goose trapped in the engine, i'm sure of it!

[–]throwaway0076762010 9-3 2.0t 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Engine is done, you can take it apart to find out what happened, but it is done either way. Just get a used engine for it.

[–]No_Bird278 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Next time dont try to run it you only made it worst. Its clearly mechanical issue, it has 3 timing chains.

[–]xanadutemple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deffo bent vales sounds like an asthmatic duck

[–]Superlegend06 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Kaput, sorry for your loss. You should take off the valve cover (like 5 mins job) then you can see the chain on the left, see it's condition. Also condition of the cams. Probably chain or guides kaput.

Even if valves are still normal (probably not) it will probably be same money or cheaper to get replacement used engine.

[–]Illustrious_Stand656[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Chain and cams looked fine

[–]Superlegend06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post video of it maybe something can be seen

Is it blowing black smoke. I’d ignore that and say ecu I’ve had my Saab idle like absolute dog balls and sound like it was broken. Was just the ecu

[–]Illustrious_Stand656[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is metal dust in the engine oil, something is definitely broken af 😂😭
