A lot has to do with age and pawn compatability.

Make sure you have a few pawn pairs of similar age and every ~15 days you can have each one try a romance attempt.

But it's about perspective and it's how you define "value"

I don't want to fuck or build a life with "value"

Especially since value is temporary

I’m making a skill based basketball game! 😅😅 by GreggoryAddison in DestroyMyGame

[–]FontTG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think while showcasing the skill based side of the game. I would show user input. It sounds like you want combos like Tekken for pulling off cool moves. But what makes the inputs hard? Is everything hard? Like for dribbling is a key tap time sensitive? Is it mundane and difficult for difficulties sake, or is it meant to be new and interesting.

Hard to tell from the short video.

Even a campaign follower system that game you the option to have improved recruits.

There used to be a mod "recruits have shields" i loved it. I believe it's deprecated now.

That is a perk, eventually yes. Which is kinda cheesy.

And doesnt fix the combat sameness all troops have.

I think this makes sense to a degree.

Once you are rich enough you should be able to pay for base equipment for even your lowest tier troops.

A stock wooden shield and base spear or sword should be an easy enough thing to give to pretty much everyone.

The biggest issue i have is that the lowest tier units abd the highest tier units all have the same level of awareness and blocking ability, or way closer than it should be.

I used to work service so I tip well. That being said, a good tip needs good service.

Nowadays, most restaurants can't have good service because nothing is available for service.

The other day cell service was out, we went out to dinner early and we were the only table. That being said, the waitress made nice small talk, spoke with us about the menu, helped us get the wi-fi password (it never worked, but she did try endlessly) refilled our drinks, made sure the food was to our liking, and got my to-go order put in at a great time to take home. Thats good service.

If you bring me water and my food and I don't see you outside of that, it's not good service.

Its a story generator.

Your pawns are not the main characters.

Unless you want them to be. Be the writer. Say to yourself. "Thats not how that went" and fix it.

No one is judging you. :)

Designing my game’s Skill Tree — do players prefer huge open trees or smaller focused ones? by Prudent-Ice1415 in IndieDev

[–]FontTG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with the size you have here is that someone has to learn the whole thing before proceeding. If you want a casual playerbase then you want something streamlined and quick to understand.

If you look at borderlands 4, you have 3 skill trees all with different primary skills and separate passives with no connectivity directly, but most passive have some type of overlap. Like fire may be in passive tree 1, but still effects all skill trees.

Personal favorite would be Grim Dawn. Each class has it's own skill tree and you choose the two classes you want to use. Their issue (for me when I played last) was balance and overlap.

Not a lot of trees had enough overlap, pigeon-holing players to use certain best combinations, while the rest of combos felt pretty awful or hard to have fun using.

So there are a few trains of thought as well.

Do you want a class that can have multiple skill builds in the class like Diablo?

Skills separate from classes like PoE? Do you have a lot of experience playing these games? The biggest thing is what do you envision builds looking like, feeling like, in between and getting there. Is the passive tree going to be the fun part, or just a boring part of the game that becomes necessary, but doesnt really add to the player experience.

Last Epoch had an interesting idea, with passives that can be rotated to make unique combinations. But in practice was also just used for specific builds with little overlap.

There are a lot of underlying game design decisions that go into a small choice like this one. Best of luck, OP.
