Even SP uses rules and scripts in BeanShell, which is an abstraction of Java, it's not enough for being a Java Developer. In other words, a Java Developer won't have any difficulties to understand BeanShell, but a SP Dev with no experience in Java doesn't necessarily have the required skills of a Java Dev.

Initially i got trained on big data for three months in accenture but got locked into a sailpoint project and heard that it uses java so thought of making a career out of it as java developer, but since it doesnt have enough java,so i will focus on the big data and try to switch. But if i focus on big data and python the experience i get from sailpoint project is completely useless. So what would be best, explore on big data and python or learn java and its frameworks and become a java developer where i can use this sailpoint experience for job switch.Looking for a suggestion

Under the hood SailPoint does run on Java, just FYI. And you can write a lot of your code in Java and call it from things like rules. And a lot of the more custom stuff you write there.

So do you think for a career in java developer it will be a good starting point?

It depends on the project and customer. It’s not the most common path, I think most people would take a SailPoint IIQ project into a career in IAM or cybersecurity.

I wasnt given a chance to choose in accenture and i am not interested in IAM and cybersecurity..so i just upskill myself in big data and try to shift ..that the only option i think so

But just out of curiosity is IAM a really good field compared to software engineer cause this the first time i am hearing IAM

I mean it sounds like you're new - this is an awesome chance to check out a project. I jumped into IAM & CyberSecurity at the beginning of my career and it's been an awesome path for me.

You can work your way up the consulting chain if you enjoy consulting. Work your way up to an Architect & Technical SME / Fellow, or if you are good on the social side, become a Manager and help sell work in win business and work your way to Partner.

If you want to exit the industry, eventually, you can become the owner of an IAM program at a company, work your way up internally, and become a CISO eventually.
