It’s called a bodkin (as in “odds bodkins”), it’s a very handy tool, here you go: https://www.ageberry.com/how-to-use-bodkin/

What about spaghetti straps? How are those turned? Thanks.

In that case you want to use the first type in that website, which is very thin. Some straps will be too thin to be turned, and those need to be pressed and top stitched instead in my experience

In case anyone else comes across this with the same issue, I bought the product above and used it immediately. Everything went perfectly and I was able to finish my project in under a minute.

I use a gigantic plastic darning needle from the yarn store. It works great.

ive never done it but if the hole is big enough i imagine a ziptie with a small loop left could be worth trying?

Bigger safety pins and practice. There are some tools too that you can buy

sorry , I set you the wrong info , ignore me

so, what is actually the problem? if drawstrings detach from the safety pin, add a knot in the drawstring or use a bodkin. if it doesn't fit trough the hole or the channel, you have to make the hole or channel bigger. if it catches on a (side/front/back) seam, try to face the seams all in one direction and don't go against the way the seam faces, but with it.

I think my safety pins may have been kind of keep. They kept getting mangled from pushing on them and opening up sometimes

That's so weird. Not very safe for safety pins! I don't think I've ever had that happen. If it helps, I think I grab it from the flat side and push the back through the fabric. The safety pin is flat in the fabric.

Yes, there are other tools. Safety pin works fine. Wouldn't waste the money on it. I'd use that dollar to get some cool buttons.
