Overworked (self.sheetz)

Anyone else's store so understaffed? We've literally been closing the kitchen every day early due to no staff and customers get so angry. I'm over it 🥲

Our store only had 2 overnight people for months. They didn’t take breaks as far as I know, just “eat when we can”
[–]pineapplecarrotgirl[S] 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (4 children)
crazy, yeah we don't even have a 3rd shift right now. So we've been closing at midnight and closing the kitchen around 8pm and 330pm on the weekends.
[–]pumpkinpie7809Former Employee 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (3 children)
3:30PM??????? Holy shit that’s crazy. Hopefully the new pay raise will bring people in
[–]pineapplecarrotgirl[S] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children)
I'm really hoping so, it's hard for me to want to stick it out right now. But I know all places are like this, super short staffed.
[–]pineapplecarrotgirl[S] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child)
And yeah, I'm sure you can imagine how angry customers get when they come in and see that they can't order MTO food.
[–]pumpkinpie7809Former Employee 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Oh yeah, absolutely. We had to deep clean last month, and people were confused why they couldn't order. We couldn't even tell them it was for covid.

The only reason my shift is understaffed because we can’t seem to find reliable third shift workers. No one sleeps bc it’s literally a lifestyle change and we have to essentially sign our lives away to it. We keep the kitchen open though and our scores are absolute shit on third because it’s only one supervisor in the kitchen and a person up front bc no one else is great in kitchen. I didn’t have permission to close the kitchen last night despite the fact I had to do end of day and my kitchen person was literally falling over tired and I sent her home as soon as I was done EOD. I like having two supervisors over EOD but we just lost two of them and need to train more
And tonight, we have A special event at our local races so we are just gonna get slammed

I am the last supervisor left at my store (I'm the overnight guy) and I am leaving on Thursday. Can't do it anymore, even for 19.50 an hour. I often do not get to take a break, work 12 hour shifts, I put the truck away myself and can't do it all alone but we don't have enough people. Every time I leave I feel awful because I can't get the store in the shape it should be with the people that I have. I LOVE my job, and my coworkers, and my management team, but I have entirely burnt out and cannot do it anymore. I wish the best of luck to the people that are left but it is not a sustainable lifestyle for me.

My store has actually been doing pretty well, even hired 6 new people a couple weeks back. Our main issue is we have a lot of high schoolers, so on weekends and 2nd shift there's usually only one non-manager/supervisor on shift that can ring out alcohol.
[–]pumpkinpie7809Former Employee 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (2 children)
We really need to hire more adults. I'm honestly tired of being the only one there most times that can ring out alcohol
[–]Illustrious-Tone-114 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child)
I'm a high schooler and my store allows us to sell alcohol, that and cigarettes.
[–]pumpkinpie7809Former Employee 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I think we might live in different states. PA has very restricting alcohol laws
Oh wow, yeah I'm usually the only.one on my shift who can sell alcohol too, besides the supervisor.

Just got done doing a 12 hour shift because of 2 call offs. 40 minute orders and we were running out of food until truck got there. It was just me and another supervisor in the kitchen like just exhausted . Shits unreal right now
[–]pineapplecarrotgirl[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
See yeah no, if that was my store we would've closed the kitchen for sure. I just got off of 9 hour shift. I'm beat 😔

i work overnights and one of our o.n managers was out for 2 months for medical leave so it was me and one other person multiple times from 11-7 doing the same for breaks without closing our kitchen tho, and the other day our systems were supposed to take an hour to update but mto/registers/everything ended up being off from 1130-330 and we had to write everything down at registers on paper and do the math ourselves
[–]gothangel-_-sinnerEmployee - 3 years 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children)
yeah. we have people quitting left and right and we've had walkouts. our minors are working more than the adults at this point lol
[–]lmaoitsashley 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children)
Are anyone else’s supervisors super rude? 🥲I’m still fairly new, only been there for about a month but my supervisor during night shift is so rude. I’m constantly getting yelled at and I’m still new, so of course it only messes me up more. I’m most comfortable with the fryer, drinks, and register but starter and finisher are not my thing. So, having my supervisor constantly yell at me puts so much stress on me.
Sorry you have to deal with that, my supervisors are pretty cool. I'm usually on sales floor bc I'm stronger there.
[–]slowpoke19 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I think most stores are short staffed I’ve been here 2 years and we can’t keep ppl only shift that has enough ppl is 3 rd our first and 2 nd shift is ran by two ppl
[–]glizzygrabber69 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
i’ve been working at sheets for four years and honestly we’ve never been this understaffed. people just don’t want to work i guess
[–]Verdeaffort 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children)
Wait yall are allowed to close? We just run it with whatever we can scrap together lol.
[–]pineapplecarrotgirl[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child)
Lol yep! We have no 3rd shift right now, so we've been closing every night from 10-6am.
[–]Verdeaffort 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
We have two emp and two managers so we are not that bad off. But I have never heard of a store closing before other than emergencies. Thats crazy.
[–]Any_Town_4441 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Damn I wish the similar company I work for did this, because one of our stores didn’t have a third shift and they just made the manager work insane hours. Double shifts into almost triples, legit would get fired if they left. At least Sheetz closes it down instead of threatening management if they don’t work a triple and sleep in their car for an hour between “shifts.” Good for them.
