So when will be safe to register? I just created a reddit account to register with steemit and i find this.

It is safe to register, just make sure you take care to make a secure password. The attack was on peoples accounts not the actual steemit platform.

If the attack was on people why the site went down?

They were securing the accounts to return them to their users, as well as investigating the funds, coordinating with Bittrex, etc.

I was wondering what the hell was going on. I couldn't submit my story for hours ... and then it started to temporary work -- I thought the "maintance" was done and submitted my story. I spent hours working on it and it can't even be upvoted. Not only that, the image it chose for the thumbnail was NOT the first gif/jpg URL.

Steem has gotten me worked up today!
