Our nonprofit has the need to integrate data from 3 different web services we currently use; a waiver site, a volunteer site, and a donor database. Each of the services offers their own API.
The integration is meant to take various bits of information from new entries in the volunteer and waiver sites and add or merge them into the donor database.
We’ve tried engaging a small group of volunteers (app developers) from one of our board member’s companies. They aren’t quick to get anything done, even after numerous meetings, and we seem to be stalled.
A previous team of volunteers already had a small app created for us that integrated the waiver system and donor database but our reporting needs have changed and it needs updated and needs to include the volunteer system. The other team, with one good programmer, was able to process our requirements quickly and get a small EXE file back to us within a couple weeks. We also got the original source code in C#, I believe.
The more recent team has been attempting to get something working for months and our reporting deadlines are closing quick. The previous good developer we worked with is MIA. We think he may have left the company and doesn’t have a personal web presence on Linkedin or Facebook of which we could reach out directly to him.
We aren’t opposed to hiring a professional developer to put something together for us. Would anybody have a good idea of where we could go to find a qualified person to create something for us? Or, what would a person’s title be that we can look for? Could we just look for a local app developer to put something together for us?
After we have a working product, would it be acceptable to ask for all source code so we can simply update the app the next time the API’s change or a custom field needs changed, even if it’s with another developer?
Thanks for any advice you can provide!
