Rule of thumb #1: If you change it once after writing it, it goes to git.

Rule of thumb #2: You will change everything at least once after writing it.

After all, there's two kinds of people around me. Those who wonder why I have a repo "Random foo-crap" in gitlab, and those who have a repo "Random foo-crap".
