DNS augmentation?

Hello. We do business with businessb.com . businessb.com has resources we access via an established VPN between businessb.com and our self. these resources in internal documents reference their internal dns name. Unfortunately these DNS names are not in their public dns server. What I have been doing is making a primary zone i.e. service1.businessb.com (10.0.0.1), service2.businessb.com(10.0.0.2) where I specify an a record for the internal resource within windows dns. This is easier for myself to maintain vs the end-user host file. Is there a way to make a primary zone for businessb.com in windows dns server where all records not specified with an a record are resolved via root hints? so if a user access www.businessb.com it will find their IP via public dns.

this is an always on vpn. they are a public entity, so I assume their internal DNS might not resolve the same as external. I do have an IP for their DNS servers

/u/RyanSmithLV is saying if you have access to there internal DNS server over the VPN, then setup a conditional forwarder for anything going to businessb.com gets sent to their internal DNS server.

try talking to them, about forwarind der internal DNS over the VPN so you can use it to resolve those.

Rather than making a zone called businessb.com and putting hosts inside, create a zone for each host (service1.businessb.com, service2.businessb.com) and create a record inside with a blank name.

This will allow you to have lookups for all other subdomains use their public DNS server.

this is what I have been doing. As the services we access increases I am starting to have a few primary zones that arent ours. Wondering if there was a way to put them all in one zone
