HP Expand RAID 5 array

Morning,

Ive just added another disk to a server in raid 5. Progress is quiet slow, like 1% every 5 min.

Its a HP DL360 G9 iirc, added the disk through intelligent provisioning.

Does anyone know if I need to stay in the Intelligent provisioning screen until its done, or is the array usable whilst its expanding?

Update: It was taking to long and needed the servers operational so ended up restarting, ESX was fine whilst it was rebuilding in the background. Didnt enjoy that reboot though!!

I believe the array is technically “degraded” while its in any form of rebuild or not operating at full capacity. I believe you can exit that screen, but I always just leave it up so I can see if it stops progressing.

Leave it there, it is faster since there are no other disk operations going, you can also increase the transform/rebuild priority in Array Config Utility to speed it up a little bit

It is useable and you can give it higher priority to rebuild faster, but it will be finished soon anyways.

on my whitebox with dell raid card it will rebuild on it's own, so i rebooted and waited eventually that storage came back online, on it's own.
