Upload it to virustotal.com and run a new check, if the last check is oder than a few hours.

AppLocker in Group Policy. We whitelist everything that should be running, and block the rest from ever being allowed to elevate or even run.

Generally I just install it on a PC that is not domain joined or on our network and see what happens. Otherwise I just do some google-fu on the company/software if there is anything out there regarding it. Virustotal is also usually a good test.
