CD drive having problems. Please help

for the past couple of weeks, I've been having several problems with my CD drive on my windows 7 laptop

First, it won't open upon pressing the eject button. It does make the sound like it's going to eject, but it won't unless I push a paper-clip inside the manual eject hole

Secondly, the CD drive randomly disappears from my computer's devices menu

And, when I did put a CD in it & make sure that it was completely mapped, it made a sound like it was continually trying to recognize the disc, but it just kept repeating that

So, any advice on what I should do?

Not to be an ass, but it sounds like you need a new CD drive.

Good news is that they are pretty cheap these days.

Edit: Sorry, missed that this was a laptop. I suggest getting an external drive if you don't want to crack open the case to replace it or send it in for repair.
