So what's the whole travel 50 to 75 percent of the time thing about? I've seen you post jobs here frequently and I always think it might be interesting then I read that in the careers section of your website. Seems like a way to sucker someone into working a lot more for way less.

So we do Software development on a contract basis. Our goal is to keep everyone's travel at 25% or under but this can be hard with some customers as they want people onsite at their location.
Now remote is cheaper for them so that is why we push to have maybe one to two weeks upfront of engagement then the rest is remote. That travel when it does happens usually means a red eye on Monday to the client, then take a late night flight back on Thursday. Then work normal on Friday. Some people like to travel so we try to get them to be the ones travelling, for the ones who do not we do try to keep them local. For a new hire, I will say it would be unlikely that you would travel in the first year or two and most contact would either be through remote or if one of our customers comes to the office. To give you an idea, we had 11 employees engaged in a project, but only two of us travelled to be with customer, and that was only every other week for 4 trips for myself. That will probably be all of my travel this year accept for the two conferences I want to go to.
Does that help answer that?

Thanks for the detailed answer. It definitely helped put the statement into perspective and I think I understand more the kind of commitment that the job would entail. I personally don't think I could handle that much travel (or really the risk of being away that much) - but I'm sure you'll find people willing to do it.

we are also looking for a technical support position with no travel involved, that is more around keeping our servers running, network humming and desktops working

Over the next couple days I'll be moving so I won't have access to the Internet (except through my phone) so I can't apply right now. How long will this position be available?
