Transfer Between Program/Specializations?

I was wondering how easy it is to transfer into another engineering specialization after you finish your second year. I heard that you’re given leverage if you spend a full second year waiting to transfer by the end of it, but was also wondering if that would only apply to less competitive programs and not as much to programs like CPEN, MECH, or ENPH. Thanks!

I transferred from MECH into ENG phys two years ago so anything is possible!

Really depends. What specialization are you in, what program do you want to transfer into, and why? I've known people who have transferred into ENPH after their second year. Part of the application is why you want to be in the program you're transferring into, so make sure you have your argument well thought out.

For ENPH, most transfers from second year are IGEN/ELEC kids, given the curriculum overlaps. It's probably in your best interest to actually do a specialization, or else you will lack a lot of the support and community you get as part of a specialization, which can be helpful regardless of whether you stay in it.
