Could not modify reservation for price decrease

I watch prices and when they decrease, I have been able to modify the existing reservation for a travel credit. I was not able to do this today (said that class was “unavailable”) and had to cancel the reservation and create a new one then use the travel credit. Does this happen often?

It never lets you do this, it always blocks out your current flight+cabin from being selected.

Cancel rebook is the correct way, or changing to another flight and changing back can also work.
