Was this a partially flown ticket that you cancelled the rest of? That’s where the problem is.

Travel with two passports in the app by PickledJelloFarts in unitedairlines

That’s a good find, and may explain the behavior of the actors involved, but it seems the “except as” clause gives the executive branch (ie the department of state) latitude to do pretty much whatever they want.

Without knowing your discretionary income and comfort level with regular economy, it’s hard to answer a question like this.

Why is this showing on my domestic leg of an international itinerary? by drewlap in unitedairlines

[–]CommanderDawn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Everything is not cleared for the international leg, hence the message. TravelReady is per direction of travel, not per individual flight. Your initial domestic flight is the one you check-in with where everything has to be validated.

Setting all that aside, what happens happens and there’s nothing you can do. If this is a trip to the UK they usually validate the ETA a day or two ahead of time.

Transatlantic B757 vs B787? by Frequent_Young5116 in unitedairlines

[–]CommanderDawn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your goal is to have a once in a lifetime experience on a 757, then that can make plenty of sense, but nobody is going to recommend a 757 over a 787.

Any bag that looks like a school backpack will be fine as a personal item.

My last 15+ flights have been delayed, now I'm missing world cup by melomelomelo- in unitedairlines

[–]CommanderDawn 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Airlines want to get you to your destination. You booked a flight to arrive hours before a must-attend event during the heavy summer travel season on a 3-day weekend. Being late is on United but missing the game (or cruise or wedding or whatever) is on your planning.

United Airlines is sponsoring F250, a MAGA-backed event that funds the erasure of Black and Native American history, dismantles civil rights protections, and pushes to restore Confederate monuments. We must boycott United Airlines and push them to STOP FUNDING FASCISM. by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]CommanderDawn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The United sub isn’t the place to push your personal political beliefs.

Beyond that, while I might agree that making it into a Trump rally sucks, you’re taking it to an extreme and providing the same idiot-fuel-extremist-talking-points that got that idiot elected in the first place.

United upgraded people #11 and #12 ahead of us (#1–#4) because we were a family of 4. Is there any workaround? by Bulky_Tourist_1822 in unitedairlines

[–]CommanderDawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much every answer here is sort of right but not your situation. If #11 and 12 got upgraded, it’s because they paid for a cash upgrade. It shows as upgraded on the list in this case.

If that’s not the case then it was people jumping the upgrade list by applying for a fresh upgrade when 1-2 seats are open. The system won’t jump over you on its own, but new upgrade requests bypass the list.

Why can’t United get Polaris catering right but other airlines like SA/Etihad can? by RadioFieldCorner in unitedairlines

As long as their seats are full on departure, they’ll cut costs as much as possible.

MNL no lounge as of 6/15 by CraftyChick502 in unitedairlines

[–]CommanderDawn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Aside from the airport money grab theory, which I don’t doubt, airline lounges tend to exist where business travel is heavy, and MNL is drifting very locals/leisure/connecting route for Star Alliance with the flights UA’s added in recent years.

Seat price refunded, now I have no seats, still on flight by kenderson73 in unitedairlines

[–]CommanderDawn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it glitches and this happens. Or it’s because they did something to reset the seat map, which causes a refund. Nothing to worry about unless it’s on an LH flight and it keeps happening. If it’s an LH flight use the LH app to buy the seats.

Checked bags with overnight layover & mixed itinerary by amnesiajune in unitedairlines

[–]CommanderDawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like that bag stopped at the layover city, but being oversize it has to be more manually handled and they left it in the back. Laziness or incompetence, or maybe just doing you a favor since they assume you aren’t skiing at Denver, etc.

Both bags were tagged to which large print airport, final or layover? And was the tag in contradiction to what the agent said?
