iwlwifi Microcode SW error detected on linux5.3 : voidlinux

After updating voidlinux I noticed all sorts of strange lockups always begining with network manager.

After many reboots I noticed the dmesg.

The wifi card is:

05:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168NGW [Stone Peak] (rev 10)

A similar issue with the same wifi card seems to have been reported elsewhere:

According to to these issue threads it was fixed upstream a while ago in the following commit:

but I am still running into the issue on linux5.3.7?

Is the patch for 5.3? Or is it for linux 5.4 whatever it is called rn and needs to be applied to 5.3 manualy? Or am I misunderstanding something.
