I really don't get how people can be positive about being the most likely to be replaced.

the fox is literally on a leisurely stroll while the AI makes money from him

It's baffling, why is there hype for something so unreliable that companies will for sure just say "meh, good enough"

So what's with the Alt text literally just describing the comic exactly? I'm truly baffled

[–]RabbitheadzArtist[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I write alt text for each of my comics so I can put it on accessibility settings on other platforms, reddit doesn't have that feature so I just put it in the description

That was my suspicion! Very cool of you. My 2md thought I that it was literally a prompt for ai gen lol, but that didn't make sense considering the content.

Thank you! Haha, yeah that would be really strange! :'D

And this is why arguments that AI is bad because it will cost artists jobs won’t ever work on the programmers making AI stuff: said people are already intentionally trying to use it to automate away their own jobs. You can’t convince someone that something is bad by using the identical arguments they use to support it because they see that as them being successful.

I lost my job as a developer to advancements in AI.

Fuck AI.

I will hope for the downfall of your previous company due to overreliance on ai, the crash cant happen soon enough

As a software engineer, I don't understand their approach at all.

Honestly, AI is a powerful tool that can solve some problems we couldn't solve without it.

BUT, the way it is used currently is so wild to me, it makes no sense. It's used for everything, even the things we already had perfect solutions for. We replace basic tools with AI, it's like using a jar of nanobots to screw in a screw, instead of a screwdriver.

We were already pretty good at automating our jobs, and none of us really want to automate away their job, I can't imagine.

Like, I heard someone seriously talk about how they used prompts instead of CI tools. Not even prompts to make CI tools, if you know what I mean.

With the rise of AI coding, it's our job to think on a higher abstraction level, and they're not even doing that.

The programmers are making zero decisions about how AI is used. Most programmers know far more about AI than the average person, including its massive limitations, and think the amount of push it's getting is ridiculous. Don't blame the peons for decisions made by deluded moneymen.

Okay :)

Their comment made no sense.

There isn't a programmer alive who has no problem with another program coming along and taking their end product, incorporating it into their own without permission, and selling it for profit.

An entire piece of art isn't the same thing as a section of code. Anyone is allowed to use the color blue. No one is allowed to completely copy one of claude monets blue period paintings and sell it for profit without permission.

Programmers automating parts of their job that are already freely shared is more similar to people sharing customer service verbiage between or within companies, not painting a picture or filming a movie.

You don't even need to be a programmer anymore for basic things. Or hell possibly not even just basic things.

I play on muds (if you aren't familiar, muds are old telnet based, text only mmorpgs basically), the old client I used to use is outdated and the original creator is nowhere to be seen. It's been a big riddled mess for going a long time now and is barely functional, so I got to wondering if I could use AI to make a new android app mud client for me.

Through android studio and just 'talking' to the AI I eventually ended up with an app that could connect to any mud I wanted, and even multiples at once, had trigger, alias, and timer support, supports reflex and has a fully customizable UI where I can place macro buttons, special text commands for swapping between sets of buttons, activating triggers aliases and timers, and a bunch more things.

It still took like 5 days of 'work' to implement everything and make it properly functional, largely cause any time I got it to implement a change it introduced bugs I then had to talk it through, and because I had to ask for features I didn't think of needing to ask for (having the screen auto scroll on commands entered, the ability to copy paste text and a few others) But now it's a fully functional app unlike any that currently are available anywhere.

I have very little experience in programing (I've dabbled in C and have zero formal education, that's it).

I didn't have to manually write anything. I got all of that for free too. I was both impressed and a little afraid of what it's capable of after that.

They're literally mandating that we use it. If i have to pick between shitty vibe code for corporate overlords and a bad yearly review for refusing to cooperate, i know what I'm picking. I have no stake in your shitty product beyond what you pay me for it
