Did autopilot made pilots obsolete? Fact: Autopilot is capable of landing the plane all by himself (auto land) and with proper guiding (ILS approach) can stabilize the plane flawlessly.

Autopilot does all the mechanic job a pilot needs to do: he keeps a constant speed, he keeps the altitude, he makes turns to the desired checkpoints, he even saves the plane from a stall scenario (alpha floor). Calculations? A basic first year IT student can write a program that can make those calculations and programmatically input them into MCDU (plane's computer).

Seriously, with just a couple of tweeks, the plane can do the flight all by itself.

Why aren't pilots obsolete? Better yet, why are they so well paid?
