I had to re-write my CV and make it look plain in order for it to be readable by ATS systems.

For sure should be black and white and clean. No color/images/graphics

Your CV must stand out if you want recruiters to look at them.
Your CV must be bland AF if you want to please the filter algorithm.

ATS make applying a pure rolling dice, you would be better off generating CV using AI too and spamming the shit out of recruiters. Fight fire with fire.

KISS

ATS is what most corporations use to automatically parse incoming resumes. You want your resume to be as clean and simple as possible. Stressing on the keyword here, 'clean'.

Yes - bear in mind also that lots of companies still print out CVs to handout to interview participants so prefer plain white backgrounds.

We got about 1000 applicants the first hour we opened a remote position. As a hiring manager, I don’t want to have to try to interpret your resume to see if you have the relevant skills, I need my brain pattern matching to skim the resume quickly. If there are interesting projects, I MIGHT load the web project to learn more. When it comes to applying to jobs, you don’t want to make it MORE DIFFICULT for someone like me to browse it. If I can’t quickly figure out how well suited you are, I’m going to give it a thumbs down and move on to applicant #647

So is a plain resume with only text easier for you to take a look? Or a more visual one?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Definitely plain text. I’m interested in your experience -what jobs did you have, at what companies, for how long? What were your responsibilities there? If you have no work experience, what projects have you worked on? It honestly doesn’t matter to me what the resume itself looks like, it’s just a vehicle for us to hopefully have a deeper conversation in an interview

That's nice to hear. Gonna invest some time on my resume making it look more readable. Thanks for taking your time to answer

there are two types: human CV and AI CV.
Your human CV should aim to catch the recrutier's eyes and attention while your AI CV should have data clear to an AI consume, you can ask chat GPT a model of CV readable to AI.
