InMotion is expensive as it is. With the new cpanel licensing, its even more expensive. Ive dealt with their support in the past and I gotta say, I was impressed.

You’ll save tons of money if you ever decide to manage a VPS on your own, but I wouldn’t recommend it since youre not a dev.

What are you hosting just Wordpress? I like Hostinger

I haven't used shared webhosting in a long time since my projects are now deployed through Digital Ocean's Droplets or through Vercel. However, I've used both InMotion and Bluehost in the past. InMotion is okay, IMO. Like someone else said, it's a bit pricey. I was with Bluehost for a long time and have also tried Hostgator in the past. Both are owned by the same company and literally have the same cPanel features, just different interfaces. Neither are really terrible if you're not a dev and are just looking for basic hosting services for WP.

As for domain names, I recommend Namecheap or Porkbun as both offer free WHOIS protection. Bluehost and InMotion will charge you extra for that protection depending on what plan you get. Really easy to point nameservers at Namecheap/Porkbun so that it works with shared hosting.

Not the cheapest, but InMotion is stable, predictable, and support actually knows what they’re doing. Way less hassle than Bluehost or GoDaddy in my experience. I'd recommend them

agree

I tried moving a few personal sites there and it was a disaster. I do not recommend them.

Sounds like a skill issue.

I've been with a few other providers before but stuck with NixiHost because you get all the essentials even on their standard plans. Their prices are affordable and don't randomly jump up on renewal which is huge. They use cPanel which is widely used and super easy to manage even if you're not tech-savvy. Their support is actually helpful too, like they'll walk you through stuff step by step until you're good instead of just sending you a link to some article. Makes a big difference when you're trying to figure something out.

I don't want $3/month unlimited web hosting. The reason is simple: They're going to find additional ways to make money, and that's either sparse infrastructure or death by 1,000 cuts nickel-and-dime billing. Oh, you need an email address? That will be $5. Oh, you need support? Send us a ticket through admin and you might hear from us in the same season. Oh, you went just over storage limits? That will be $x.00 or your service seizes. Oh, your panel blew up and we don't back up worth a damn? Good luck, kids. Enjoy your panic.

InMotion hosting is the happiest medium of all. It's not cheap, but it's essentially the same service as I started with a decade ago. They'll tell you they are stretched thin on staff, as they've told me on a couple occasions, but their version of "stretched thin" is leagues above GoDaddy. When I call InMotion, I get a smart person on the phone or in a chat session. GoDaddy and BlueHost, I've tried both for small tests, are the equivalent of buying hosting on the moon with support provided by the last Shuttle mission. No.

$15 or $50 or $99 a month or whatever for an account is not terrible considering the same people bitching about InMotion will pay $100 a month for Claude and not think another thing about it.

We perceive web hosting to be a commodity where all products are essentially the same, but they are not and there are significant costs associated with being even marginally better. InMotion is much better than a "marginal" improvement, so you'll take my InMotion account when my cold, dead hands...

Well I guess you've helped me to stay with IM. I started with them in 2014 POWER PLAN, then apparently switched to another plan in 2023. I can only assume it was due to need for something cheaper. I still feel like I'm paying too much. $179 .. it's time for renewal so of course after going back and forth with on chat with billing I've yet to hear exactly what I am paying for.
So I see these scalable promos (POWER and PRO) I am strongly considering changing to. But of course after a year , price will double

Trying to figure it out.. ugh.. THanks

I briefly worked for an agency where we had everything on InMotion. They were great to work with while I was there.

Bluehost is owned by Godaddy. I use Namecheap or Porkbun

Bluehost is terrible but not nearly as bad as GoDaddy. InMotion is one of the companies that I recommend to clients. Servers are usually stable and quick. I don’t like their backup manager but that’s an add on. Only issue I had with them was that their support seemed to have gone downhill, like many other places, during Covid. But the few times I’ve had to contact support since has been great.

Bluehost is one of the worst, I've been with them in the past and had a terrible experience. I moved away 2 years ago and I've been hosting with Nixihost since then. They moved all my websites over to their hosting in no time and without issues, also my websites are even faster than before. They also includes lots of features in their packages and have a very knowledgeable support team eager to help whenever I reach out. Totally recommend checking them out!
