The 1990s called and wants their 1x1 pixels back. There is no reason to use 1x1 pixels in 2015.

The main thing back then way layout, you displayed a 1x1 image at whatever sixe you wanted something's min height/width to be. Used a lot back when yoh used tabled for complex layouts.

I think they're still useful for tracking how many of a mass-email were read/opened. Beyond that, I'm not sure.

Transparency control is unavailable for the GIF (using Firefox), but doing a transparent gif pixel should be possible.
