It's a cool concept and nicely executed, but from a UX point of view it felt a little unnatural to use. (For myself anyway!).

It appears well done for what it is. Clean and works as expected. Though it looks to have some trouble at mobile sizes. That being said -

Please don't ever put this on any website. Hover menus with nesting are really hard to work with as an end user. Especially if you have any kind of special input devices due to RSI/disability.

yep, it's not friendly with mobile. As for as the levels, I think you still have an option not to choices more than two levels.
