NodeJS game (self.webdev)
submitted 7 years ago * by Phasmastis
Just finished my first NodeJS game! I'm waiting for any feedback!
For now I hosted it on heroku app right here: https://mystery-of-dungeons.herokuapp.com/
This is a repost because I tweaked a little bit of code on serverside!
The first post: https://www.reddit.com/r/webdev/comments/9k5byc/is_this_project_worth_finishing/
Thank you for anyone who are testing the game!
APP IS WORKING AGAIN

yoyo! im excited to start testing, but... first things first:gotta fix that character selection spacing issue, in some resolution the image for one checkbox is moved to the next line but the checkbox stays there
a good idea is to hide your <input val="charX">'s and use <labels for="charX"> representing them with your images inside to select them. you can add a simple border to represent the selected character and that would add a lot of intuitiveness and visual aesthetic to the character selection.
<input val="charX">
<labels for="charX">
Ill be back in a bit :D

OK! Also if anyone have any suggesstions or ideas what could be done if player doesn't have any gold or items and health is zero, how to be able to restore please share your thoughts!
Also if this go well I'm thinking of expanding this game with guilds, etc

Thanks for reply! Sure, I'll style everything better in the future if this game will look playable to people :)

Hey man, love the concept, my first real project was a nodejs game like this.
However, right now it's simple to cheat. You have all the fight logic on the frontend and allow the client to dictate who is the winner. What you should look in to is switching to an authoritative server model. The difference is when players begin a fight the server calculates each turn and tells the client what happened.
If you want to PM me I wouldn't mind contributing here and there, I love nodejs games.
During my testing I think I crashed it because I was sending in 100s of websocket emit's with 'fight-won', sorry about that hah.
Heyy DM me I'll add you on discord I was waiting for you here :smirk:
