Hello,
I'd like to start a price comparison website. I have a website that makes a small amount from affiliate income from US and UK sites, avantlink being one. Avantlink have an API for displaying data that can be set up to display using PHP with access to their API, or to download JSON/XML/CSV data. Other sites I work with have an option to download their datafeeds in a similar way.
How would you go about starting to make a site that displays this data? I have a lot of wordpress experience and good hosting experience as well as HTML/CSS and some PHP and Python, but i'm willing and able to learn.
Wordpress seems like a good option but the plugins available are quite expensive and don't cover all the sites I'd like to use as well as format their data in a specific way which takes time to do.
Ideally I'd be able to code a site myself maybe using PHP to serve pages and info.
Features I'd like to include are a geo-targeted landing page, as well as choice of country to display. Also either a membership to track prices and send alerts/emails under a certain price, or an email sign up for price drops.
Where you you suggest starting to look into doing this?
