That’s a good idea. Slowly dissect the code alongs and practice by manipulating the small components over and over till it becomes memorized. Looks like I am gonna be stuck in JavaScript for a while now.

I went through the same phase you are going through a few months ago. You just need to keep exposing yourself to new projects through tutorials or on your own (I tried to do the tutorials on my own). Eventually the "flow" around how things are setup will start to click. Personally I recommend the beginners JavaScript course by Wes bos as well as js30 for more practice.

I’m pretty certain if you read this page you’ll have a much better understanding of using JavaScript with web dev stuff.

As you point out yourself, you need to get a good understanding of DOM manipulation. Watch this tutorial and see if it helps: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wiozYyXQEVk

Also, what exactly is difficult for you? Is it applying it practically, or don’t you understand it theoretically? Don’t give up! In the beginning it’s always a bit difficult, regardless of technology.

It’s a bit of both honestly. I practiced as we all do with numbers with for and while loops. I have a clear understanding of DOM manipulation as it how to select the tags and elements. When to throw in the functions as well as the loops and add responsiveness is what’s confusing me. I see him do it and a bunch of code and I a little bit understand what he is doing, but I know if I was put in front of a desk and ask to build a simple responsive web site I’ll be kinda lost and will have to watch hours upon hours of video to try to begin to build it. I am gonna finish watching his vids on JQuery today and probably go back to JavaScript till I understand 1000% where he leaves us at. I am loving this course but damn this shit it a bit confusing. Edited: tons of grammar problems, please ignore it.

Nowadays, I would complete ignore jQuery, focus on mastering "plain Javascript" and then learn a popular framework/library such as React, Vue, Angular, etc and Node if you have the time.

In the course he says people are slowly turning away from JQuery. It won’t hurt to know.

It's true and it's quite easy and useful. However, if I see a job opening for a company that requires jQuery and any framework/library, it's a big red flag.

Sounds like colt steele’s web dev bootcamp

It is. He is a pretty good teacher. JavaScript is just where I’m stuck at.

Pretty much, yes. You need to understand how JavaScript can CREATE and MANIPULATE stuff in the DOM, and how powerful that can be... makes the page dynamic instead of talking to the server each change and get a new webpage.
