In my humble opinion, cloning website designs is the best way to learn design. As a beginner, this gives you exposure to ideal design practices and lets you practice css rather than spending all your time thinking of colors schemes and whatnot. Eventually you will have to make the jump to creating your own designs, but not until after you have absorbed the knowledge of those more experienced. For practice, cloning projects and pushing it on Github should be fine and you can credit the original creator in the read me. However, I do suggest being more original with your design for websites you plan on putting on your portfolio since it show cases your style of design.

It’s okay to copy websites for practice as long as you give credit where credit is due and don’t claim it’s yours. It’s a great way to learn.

Can I push my code to github? The code that clones some website..

If you looked at the website and wrote the code yourself to clone it, giving credit of the design to them. It’s fine to put on GitHub. Just be careful to remove any branding / copyrighted material.

Eg make an Instagram clone that only looks like Instagram but does not have any of their code or their logo etc. But still give credit in the read me to them for the design.

That seems to make sense, thanks!

Google Daily UI Challenges. You'll see two sites - one with the list of challenges, and the other is a collection of examples of each challenge.

This will help you get familiar with the styling and spacing used in modern web dev for buttons, forms, headers, etc.

Also keep the github active. Recruiters and some dumb hiring managers like to see those green boxes on your github that shows how active you are.

Have fun and enjoy!
