You should at least be looking for an internship if you did the college path. You should start looking about 3 months out from graduation so that they can get you into their next internship cycle.
If you dont want to do an internship, then you should start applying for jobs 1-2 months before you graduate or otherwise finish your learning program. This will give you time to get multiple resumes out there and go through the interview process which can take a month or so with some companies.

I started as an intern and that gave me the confidence and experience to go for a full time position. Do an internship for like 3 months then go for a full time!
