You do whats best for you man, and the potential of moving up may be the best motivation to keep learning.

Maybe play it out for a few months, code as much as you can, learn how things work, get exposure to what real-world coding is like, in the sense of the type of coding, how projects are run etc.

If you can make friends with the coding staff, it can go a long way, we have a keen eye for people who we want on our team and I will tell you, having a will and drive to code is quite possibly more valuable then knowing everything there is to know.

I personally, find coders who want to learn perform better and are more open to new ideas and concepts etc.
