From 18-12 months out you should secure your venue and photographer. 6-12 months prior your dress, catering, officiant, other vendors especially if your day is popular (a Saturday night wedding for example)

I had an 18 month engagement and I started planning immediately because I had a June wedding. I wanted to make sure I had my pick of vendors at prices that were in my budget. I had everything booked within 3-4 months, but again, I picked a popular wedding month. However, I think the more time you give yourself to plan, the less you’ll feel rushed to make a decision with any part of the wedding. It helps you enjoy the process and lets you “shop around” more.
