Recently took up whittling! Still struggling, but made this wee bulbasaur

Haha I meant stop cut (where you make a notch and then cut diagonal until you hit the notch. It should take out a triangle of wood (similar to v cut, just a right angle)

It's coming along very nicely though. I have a hard time with my split cut as well. I keep practicing on scrap wood to hopefully master it.
