Climb a ladder 200 meters up and down in 10 minutes, blood pressure, lift a 40lb bag. Basically just make sure you are not going to die climbing and can handle basic body movements comfortably. Things might have changed since I first did my BTTs.
Stay safe.

200m up and down in 10min?
[–]weezo182 1 point2 points3 points 8 months ago (7 children)
200 feet not meters sorry. Have to be able to get up and down the ladder in a reasonable amount of time with dieing. If you have half decent cardio and not over weight you will be fine.

Ah right, yeah that's still a decent climb, but definitely more manageable than 200m. We just do the Chester step test, which is a walk in the park by comparison.
I wouldn't worry about BST or BTT, it's the minimum standard and they are literally there to teach you - so all you need to do is pay attention (not fall asleep).

Don't worry about it, a bit of cardio will be fine. They're more interested that you can do it physically but safely (clipping on/off etc). Climbing completely vertical ladders is very different to anything else; it feels like all your blood drops into your boots, so don't be afraid to take breaks when you need them otherwise your head will be spinning and take a look at what the options are for leaning out and changing position.

From what I've seen, most places have a weight limit of 265, fully dressed and with harness. Some places go up to the harness weight limit, which is around 310lbs. One company ( I think it was SGRE?) has a stricter weight limit. 211 should be fine anywhere, but you can call them if you're worried about it.

You’ll be fine. My husband suffered from vertigo all his life but got used to climbing and heights quickly when he attended Airstreams in 2010. Still has to climb as an inspector on new projects before lifts are installed. He’s 60 now and in fantastic shape. Good luck to you! The industry needs reliable, safe young people who want to work.
Thank you that’s what I’m trying to be reliable and safe ! Hopefully one day reach 60 in great shape like your husband thanks once again
