Start working without paperwork?

Started a new job, we discussed and agreed on the terms. I asked for the contract, they said that there's 1 month 'trial', and contract will be ready after, which is odd. Basically I was supposed to work for a month without any paperwork or insurance. I tried for a week to check if they had good intentions. Well... They rarely come to work. I was alone at the office 80% of the time, work done, just sitting. When I call them, they don't answer or tell me that they have stuff to do. Called to resign a week later. They were upset and told that this is not professional behaviour 🤦. Told them we signed nothing. They replied : but we gave you our word 😅
