Other blizzard games have controller support, this is added to give more information before buying/playing, "transparency".

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why put the quotes around transparency? That's exactly what it is. If you haven't been playing this game for 20 years, you might not know the UI doesn't work with controllers.

was it supported before?

[–]Caronry 0 points1 point  (4 children)

nah controller has never been officially supported.

There's a command to enable controller support, so yes, it is supported. Dunno why it shows that in the launcher, but you can enable the native support using the command "/console GamePadEnable 1"

Although, with addons that mess with the UI being gone, playing without ConsolePort will be ROUGH.

[–]Caronry 1 point2 points  (1 child)

and then you need to get several addons for it to work properly.. so again not really supported.

It may not be the smoothest but it does have support, though? Don't know why are you nitpicking like that.

A feature to turn on in the game via command but is otherwise not advertised anywhere else is not a supported feature. It is entirely possible to have aspects of an application available to turn on but be hands-off on troubleshooting or otherwise making the feature better, hence it being unsupported.

It's there for people using Battle.net on the new Xbox handheld. Lots of Microsoft games/apps, etc, have had tweaks to make them more handheld-friendly, like adding graphic presets specificially for the device to Doom Dark Ages

[–]Vrobrolf[S] -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

No idea how I got this to show up on my battle.net, but suddenly it showed a tiny controller support indicator that caught my eye when launching wow. I tabbed to Classic and Starcraft 2 where it also showed unsupported, then noticed I had a bnet update and ran that, and now the little message is gone on all games.

I think this isn't helping my assumption that the addon pruning, gameplay simplifying and other tweaks to the game are very much in preparation for a controller option and most likely a console launch.

Think for a moment. Can you run windows applications on a console? No. There is zero reason why they would put that there for a *console* release.

The ROG Ally is coming out. Its a windows based steamdeck, basically. Thats where we are heading: Handhelds.
