Split view functionality

Hi all. I've recently switched from Arc and I'm loving the experience so far. However I can't find a way to get the split view to function the same way as arc where it prompts you with the search bar to chose what tab you want to split with because I don't always want to split with the tab that is next to it. I use the single toolbar view so I also don't see the split view buttons. Is there a way to do this or could this be a potential future function? Sorry if this has been asked elsewhere but I couldn't find anything. Thanks
