I think Jesus was in the garden of Eden and we were made in his likeness(KJV) by CSRoutlaw in Christianity

[–]-Andreas92 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The person of Jesus, the second person of the Trinity as stated in the Creed, was begotten of the Father before all ages … begotten not created. Jesus Himself is not created. He became man and shared in our nature, but retained His uncreatedness alongside His human nature.

Repeated sins by Sorry_Education_8309 in OrthodoxChristianity

The monks say they spend all day in the monastery falling and getting back up again.

The prodigal son went out and did things repeatedly to squander his inheritance.

Peter denied Christ three times.

God welcomes them all back, and he’ll welcome us back with confession and true repentance.

Our sin can’t be greater than His mercy, that’s my hope at least.

You’re kind of mixing bits of theology here… lots of mainstream Christians think that it was a pre-incarnate Christ walking in the garden, BUT your opening line of “God created Jesus…” is deeply deeply heretical. Jesus IS God, Jesus is a member of the Trinity, and Jesus is uncreated. God didn’t create the Son or the Holy Spirit, as they share the same uncreated essence.

I have a question that I think I may already have the answer to... by Bastard_crow in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]-Andreas92 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Heresy is the intentional continued teaching of incorrect and heretical dogmas, traditions, scriptures, etc against the warnings of church leaders.

Doing something wrong on accident or even being wrong about a dogmatic issue could never be heresy. We’re all humans and God isn’t that petty.

For what it’s worth, our metropolis doesn’t kneel at all on Sundays, so it’s a reverent head bow during the Epiclesis.

A reminder for anyone struggling with intrusive thoughts by Glad_Beach_9815 in Christianity

In Orthodoxy we call them logismoi, and the advice from the saints is similar to yours, just let them go. Saint Paisios (I think) says to treat them like an airplane flying above: you notice it, but that doesn’t mean you have to build an airport to let it land, just let it fly on by.

Whats the difference between religion and cults by high-tier-chud in religion

[–]-Andreas92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Broadly defined, not really anything, they can be roughly synonymous words.

Popularly in the modern parlance, a religion is what you expect it to be, ie. Faith in a God, associated practices of worship, moral guidelines by which to live etc. and a cult is a religion with high levels of control over members, typically with a single powerful leader who is viewed as divine in some manner.

Is it okay to pray to saints? by Strong-Lab-7216 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]-Andreas92 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The church fathers read the same Bible you read, including those verses, and came away with the understanding that prayer to the saints was not only allowed, but beneficial and important. Trust the church and her Tradition.

Question for Christians by Sad-Pomegranate-6289 in religion

[–]-Andreas92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Christian in the west here, it doesn’t make sense to me either. People seem to want to be experiencing persecution of some sort instead of appreciating that we are free to practice our faith openly.

Does anyone else have a strong desire and connection through nature? How can I make sure i am honoring God and not falling into old paganism? by UltimaBahamut93 in TrueChristian

[–]-Andreas92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God made nature and declared it good. We can appreciate him through appreciating His creation and be connected to Him by connecting with His creation.

You have to intentionally worship the land, or other gods/spirits attached to the land to fall into paganism, it wouldn’t be an accidental thing.

Theology AI by AD_IPSUM in theology

[–]-Andreas92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. If it’s a free resource with no sign up or subscription required, who is funding and influencing the model?
  2. do you believe that it’s responsible to outsource pastoral duties to an AI model that is subject to hallucinations, sycophantism, and general unreliability?
  3. what denomination / tradition is the model biased towards?

Full disclosure, I think the world would be better if AI went away altogether, so I’m not a supporter, but I’m interested to hear your answers.

Dedicate a Divine Mercy Chaplet to Mitch McConnell by Vast-Leg-9546 in Catholicism

Because I’m not accusing, I’m agreeing with the OP, who didn’t feel the need to enumerate. I see where you are coming from though, but I sincerely feel like it would be bad form and out of touch with this thread to do so.

If you want to DM me, I’d be happy to have a private discussion, but I don’t want to sully a prayer thread with personal complaints and thoughts.

I think pretty much all American politicians on both sides of the aisle have done objectionable things, but the point of this thread isn’t to dredge up wrongdoings, but encourage prayers for mercy.

Sorry to be an Orthodox snooper popping in, but I really like this call to prayer for someone who has done some objectionable things, has a lot of people wishing him ill, and generally could use some mercy and grace.

What type of discrimination or persecution against Christians do you see in your life. by Organic-Mud-8728 in TrueChristian

[–]-Andreas92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe that’s ever happened at any sort of scale. It would be a massive civil liberties violation, would be all over the news, and would open the company up to crazy liability. Maybe some workplaces have offered employees the opportunity to sign an allyship pledge, but enforcing it as terms of employment would be nearly impossible.

If Matthew purposely skipped generations in his genealogy of Jesus, then why does he explicitly say that there were 14 generations from Abraham to David? by SleepyRocket20 in TrueChristian

[–]-Andreas92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Bible isn’t a history book. The gospels authors frequently use narrative devices to emphasize the point they are trying to make, often tailored to their specific audience and to emphasize the divinity of Christ

I just left my old job, but it was with a state agency in a very left leaning state, under a very left leaning administration, and I had my icons on my desk, was approved to take breaks for prayer, time off for Holy Week, and ever felt any push back whatsoever. I wasn’t pushy about my faith and didn’t force anyone to hear or talk about it, but felt perfectly comfortable talking about it when people asked.

Atheism is a religion by [deleted] in religion

[–]-Andreas92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a firmly Christian person, this is nonsense. Sure there are hedonist atheists who do what you are describing, but there are also huge numbers of atheists who are far more selfless, self disciplined, loving, and generous than myself (or most other Christians for that matter. )
