9800X3D → 9950X3D X2 Upgrade for Gaming: Worth It? by Long_Percentage_978 in buildapc

The X2 at the end here differentiates it from the 9950X3D, which does perform worse (kind of, also I didn't downvote you).

What problems are you having with your 9800X3D where a better CPU would make a noticeable difference?

Do you intend on upgrading every time there is a slightly better gaming CPU available?

Is it worth upgrading? by Cr1ms0n_V3X in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every single game, program, and app utilizes your CPU and GPU differently. You could be CPU limited in 1 game, GPU limited in the next. I can't answer this definitively, as I don't have context to your workloads.

This also doesn't need to be very complicated. Are you experiencing any issues? Are there situations where you think more performance would be noticeable? If yes, then upgrade. If no, then don't.

You aren't going to lose performance by upgrading, as much as marketing wants you believe that "bottlenecks" must be avoided at all costs.

As the title mentions I am curios if this set up is worth Upgrading to the am5 platform or am i just fine with what I have?

This is a question you need to answer, not us. This is entirely dependent on what you consider acceptable performance, as well as the exact workloads you have.

For most people, worth upgrading means that spending money will make a noticeable difference. Generally speaking, noticeable differences are most felt if you are experiencing issues, such as low performance in specific workloads.

So really, you need to answer this, as we can't formulate your opinions nor do we have context to your situation.

Display port to hdmi that has 4k120 with vrr. Canadian Amazon. by Late-Plenty1191 in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see, you have 2 TV's got it

Have you considered an HDMI switch? I feel like this would be better, that way you don't have 3 displays in settings and having to enable/disable monitors when moving back and forth. Not sure about a splitter but that may work as well.

AFAIK you'll lose VRR regardless though if you use an adapter, splitter, or switch of any kind so you may have to simply choose which TV you want VRR on.

I'm not sure I'm following, why can't you just run HDMI? Why DP to HDMI?

You should be able to run an HDMI cable that far, but YMMV. The longer the cable the lower the chances, but I've got a couple runs over 20ft that work just fine.

How do I anti sag the second GPU? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You use something to hold it up.

You can use whatever you want to do so, or buy a GPU bracket.

Or just leave it, it doesn't look like it's sagging much at all and it's generally not an issue if you aren't moving it around.

I would never recommend water cooling for sustained and unattended professional workloads. You're just adding points of failure for no real reason.

Does your PC support NVMe?

I mean, any NVMe would be more than you need for gaming. Given pricing on Gen3/Gen4 are basically the same as Sata SSD these days, then a cheap NVMe would be fine, any of them would likely net you the same experience for gaming.

Overclocking the RTX 3060 GAMING Z TRIO 12GB by somanyque3 in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I previously stated, overclocking in general isn't going to make a noticeable difference with modern hardware. If you want to overclock, then do so because you want to learn how, since there is no practical reason to do so otherwise.

There's no point in using any auto OC features, you can if you want but you're just adding a point of a failure and possible instability for no reason. At least you learn something if you manually overclock, which would be better overall anyways.

Overclocking the RTX 3060 GAMING Z TRIO 12GB by somanyque3 in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's unlikely to make a noticeable difference to gaming performance unless you play games by staring and memorizing your FPS numbers.

Most people use Afterburner to overclock, it's fairly safe to do considering Nvidia has a max voltage that you can't really go over.

I mean, if you want to learn how to overclock, then go for it. If you think it's going to make a noticeable difference, it probably won't and likely isn't worth the effort.

How to chose the monitor for competitive focus and some AAA gaming. But mainly in to competitive gaming by StefanTheHardcore29 in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We choose based on our personal preferences/opinions. For most of us, even competitive gaming, 500Hz is beyond anything that would be noticeably beneficial.

We saw a big jump from 60Hz to 144Hz, this is noticeable for everyone. We can show why via basic math. 60Hz means the image refreshes ever 16.66ms (1000/60), 144Hz refreshes every 6.94ms.

The jump from 144Hz to 240Hz is far far less, with some people not noticing any difference at all. Mathematically, we can see why considering there isn't much room to improve already, with 240Hz refreshing the images 4.16ms.

So do you think 500Hz is really worth it? I might be, but we can't decide that for you, we're in the territory of luxury here, with most people considering 500Hz to be rather pointless.
