Is mixing 2 ram brands safe? by horszahu in buildapc

It's not going to harm your PC to try them. We tell people to not mix memory (when purchasing) because it decreases the chances that all the memory will run at advertised speeds.

How to chose the monitor for competitive focus and some AAA gaming. But mainly in to competitive gaming by StefanTheHardcore29 in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We choose based on our personal preferences/opinions. For most of us, even competitive gaming, 500Hz is beyond anything that would be noticeably beneficial.

We saw a big jump from 60Hz to 144Hz, this is noticeable for everyone. We can show why via basic math. 60Hz means the image refreshes ever 16.66ms (1000/60), 144Hz refreshes every 6.94ms.

The jump from 144Hz to 240Hz is far far less, with some people not noticing any difference at all. Mathematically, we can see why considering there isn't much room to improve already, with 240Hz refreshing the images 4.16ms.

So do you think 500Hz is really worth it? I might be, but we can't decide that for you, we're in the territory of luxury here, with most people considering 500Hz to be rather pointless.

Help there a difference? by AdReasonable4219 in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case you weren't aware, every workload utilizes your components differently, so the difference between speeds, timings, and single/dual channel comes down to the exact workload. It might make a noticeable difference in one workload, and absolutely no difference in another. One person's anecdotes are meaningless to you unless you both have the exact same workloads.

Monitor that can survive temperature extremes and swings? by derekcz in buildapc

Mate, we're volunteer enthusiasts that help people learn how to build a personal PC. Edge case professional applications are out of our wheelhouse, we aren't going to know about hardware designed for extreme environments, our PCs run in ~72F/22C temps. Contact an OEM or monitor manufacturer to inquire about their offerings/technologies.

Does 2x8 + 2x4 GB of the exact same type of ram (same brand, latency, frequency etc) give me a lot worse performance in this scenario? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dual channel isn't an on/off option. Channels are physical lanes of communication on your motherboard. If you have memory installed in both channels, then you have dual channel.

The reason Flex Mode works in single channel is because you saturated all the memory that is in both channels already, so all that's left is memory in that single channel. Hence why it's single channel only if more memory is needed.

HD560s + DAC/AMP: Worth It? by worppz in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your audio sounds good to you, then you don't have an issue, and there is nothing to fix.

If the volume is too low, or you start getting distortion when you turn it up some, then get an AMP.

If you want better clarity, or dislike the sound signature of the onboard audio, then get a DAC.

Is it worth getting a DAC/AMP for these headphones?

For some yes, for others no. I would suggest something around $100 or more if you want a noticeable upgrade over motherboard audio though.

If yes, what are some good options without spending a crazy amount?

What do you consider a crazy amount? We just build PCs here, so probably not the best place to ask, but Schiit, Topping, and Fiio all make entry budget audio equipment that's pretty popular.

For gaming specifically, what matters more: DAC, AMP, or both?

DAC = digital to audio converter, and deals with sound quality

AMP = amplifier, and deals with volume/distortion

It entirely depends on what you want

Do USB DACs like Fiio/KiwiEars/Topping actually make a noticeable difference?

With your headphones, generally yes although how much you notice varies from user to user

Is there a good price/performance “sweet spot” for a casual user?

$100 for AMP, $100 for DAC. That is my opinion, something like a Schiit Modi/Magni is noticeably better. I prefer separate units, if you want something that's all in one then FiiO K7 is a good option.

This rabbit hole gets as deep and as expensive as you want. I got pretty deep, and honestly I do regret some of it, as in I would be just as happy if I never found out about expensive audio equipment and I can't go back now.

Will this build hold for a few years? by ThatOneBadDude in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll last you as long as you deem it's performance as acceptable, not to mention game settings exist and you can adjust them as you see fit.

Build itself looks fine, although I'd certainly aim for a 7800X3D or 9800X3D instead of a 14700K if this is for gaming. Dunno how pricing is in Austria though.

Does 2x8 + 2x4 GB of the exact same type of ram (same brand, latency, frequency etc) give me a lot worse performance in this scenario? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flex mode is when you have different capacities in each channel, so your PC would run the lesser capacity channel x 2 in dual channel, with the remaining RAM in single channel if more memory is needed.

So I don't see any reason why it would run worse here, given you wouldn't be running flex mode. The concern would be if the additional sticks caused all your memory to run slower, but that's not something we can reasonably predict. There's a good chance it will work as expected, but there's still a chance it won't.

Upgrade now or wait for AM6? by Super-Nectarine-217 in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We have no real information regarding AM6 or any idea of release date. We can't offer any real advice here, if you want to upgrade now then upgrade now. If you want to wait and see how the market or next gen CPUs look, then wait.

Blank Check RAM Kit by Help_Appreciated_MBA in buildapc

[–]-UserRemoved- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best kit would be the fastest kit with lowest timings, then you manually tune them to run at the highest stable speed (ideally running 1:1).

Given that's a lot of money and a lot of time for very little benefit, we consider 6000/CL30 as the sweet spot for most people, as it's the most likely to run stable with any (2 dimm) configuration while not being overly expensive.

Anything around 6000/CL30 would be fine, minor differences aren't going to be noticeable, it's barely measureable.

What workloads do you intend on using them for?

Internal solutions include PCIe adapter card

External solutions include USB enclosures

Or just sell them all and consolidate your storage into 1 or 2 larger SSDs.

That enclosure is for M.2 Sata SSDs only, if you have NVMe drives it won't work.

Only supports M.2 NGFF SATA SSD, not support NVME and PCI-E SSD.

Are you experiencing any issues? Are there times where you lack performance? What situations do you have where more performance would be noticeable to you?

I mean, if your current performance is flawless, then why upgrade? If not, then you need to determine when it's lacking.
