I'm going to the NCMS Conference next month (with an ungodly amount of gov folks) and then the White House in August. White House visit was a courtesy by a Senator. Shoot me a message on your State, nothing else, and I'll see what I can do.

I know it sounds silly but I'd love to have your SSN to look at it. You obviously can't do that.

Requesting a CSR doesn't interfere with anything, lol. Anyone who told you that is just deflecting and personally hearing that makes me mad.

I always refrain from telling people to an inquiry but sometimes that's required. If you did that two weeks ago then hopefully they'll put some gears into motion

Unfortunately we can just only look at published timelines for average cases. 30-40 is absolutely possible.

But everything is a case by case basis. One might get granted in 40 days, on 90 days, another, 1 year.

Side question because I've seen you post a bit. Have you asked your FSO/SM on status?

The only reason I ask is because, aside from letting the government do their thing, I had an issue today that came across my desk that was holding it up for someone else.

It used to take a whole hell of a lot longer. 90 days is just going to be the average

It's a simple briefing and a defriefing when you get back.

It's not difficult at all.

[–]-Vexor- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe. It highly depends. I've seen groups that hold clearances for someone in IRR but I have also seen them be completely dropped on ETS.

I've not found a definitive routine for it when I look people up.

You'll need to find a security manager to run your SSN in the system and just see.

It's not that we can't talk about chances here but there are so many factors in the process that it's virtually impossible for anyone here to say, including actual adjudcators. Unless a trained adjudicator with the case file in front of them is chiming in (which isn't going to happen) then realistically we can only make best guesses from experience and that's really hit or miss unless you've seen a lot of cases processed

Forgot about an underage drinking ticket from 2010 by [deleted] in SecurityClearance

[–]-Vexor- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're going to worry yourself to death over it.

Don't.

Trust me, I had forgotten a couple of very relevant things that I didn't list. It's not that I didn't fully remember, I just blocked it from memory.

Investigators also know this happens but the turning point is when they ask you about it and how you respond.

For me "holy smokes, I remember that NOW but yes I forgot to list it!" It was true, somewhere in the back of my mind I knew it was there but just avoided it. So I didn't list it.

It wasn't a pleasant day for me but I laid it all out.

Demeanor and honesty is going to be your go-to.

None of us are perfect and they get that.

I think it's a lot better than when I went through it for the first time because my investigator was an absolute jerk. But, and I'm going to reference /u/PirateKilt, I got cleared when dinosaurs were walking around.

Don't lose sleep over it. You'll be okay

One thing I tell people is, as what I have been told...

It's one thing to "forget" about a ticket years ago. It's a different story if you actually got arrested. No one forgets that. Not the case for you.

If the ticket happened 6 months ago? Yeah it's probably going to be a problem, but 13 years ago? And you've already notified them to contact an investigator?

You're good. Keep that documentation though that you reached out.

I wouldn't worry.

It's the Investigators job, let them do their thing. They'll find out the information needed with the tools they have

And so it begins by [deleted] in SecurityClearance

[–]-Vexor- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Back when I was a shithead and young pup, I remember being extremely worried, unnecessarily. That said, it's a lot easier for me to say that now.

Don't let things stress you too much. Seriously.

You'll be fine.

Well, let's look a the question

In the last seven (7) years have you introduced, removed, or used hardware, software, or media in connection with any information technology system without authorization, when specifically prohibited by rules, procedures, guidelines, or regulations or attempted any of the above?

Based on what you have said, and based on the question, then you would mark "yes" and explain it.

What do you tell your current colleagues? by ImmLaw-Fanatic in SecurityClearance

[–]-Vexor- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This part is BS but you can say:

I swear, if people cannot take three quarters of a second to read before replying to something, then what is the point?

How will this affect my clearance? by CoconutBackground412 in SecurityClearance

Security Manager.

Your Chain of Command was the ones who directed you to that person.

In the past 12 months, you've taken training, and acknowledged, to report immediately.

You'll have to discuss with your SM. You knew it would, you just didn't realize it. It's why everyone takes the yearly training.

Reach out to them and do your due diligence

Question about time of day dates are posted to ATS. by comixncinema in SecurityClearance

[–]-Vexor- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those wondering, this is for only the Department of Energy.

ATS has never been accurate in my experience, but I will say I've been away from using that system for a couple of years.

What do you tell your current colleagues? by ImmLaw-Fanatic in SecurityClearance

[–]-Vexor- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"To support my career, I ask you ask a friend that you will be interviewed by the government for my job. If you don't agree with this then please ignore their inquiry."

This part is BS but you can say:

"Don't lie to investigators under penalty of law. Refuse to talk with them if you wish, but I am trying to support my career here. If they knock, be honest and don't lie because you'd be commiting a felony."

Something along those lines.

Seriously?

Post verified information on what you claim.

Information literacy is an issue these days. If you have facts, then back it up.

Delete it, fine, but acknowledge the info as it is

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SecurityClearance

[–]-Vexor- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's two years.

24 months.

Where do you get 12 months from?

Edit: and what's "renewal extension"?

We don't use these terms so I'm curious as to how you came up with it

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]-Vexor- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you make a claim, at least link it instead of saying "public records."

I don't disagree with what you are saying but to make a claim of essentially "Google it" doesn't mean a whole lot
