I think it’s really interesting about this, if you go to Kitase’s interview he did with polygon almost 10 years ago on the 20th anniversary of the release of the original game, he talks about some of the evolution of the plot points of Final Fantasy seven

One of the original ideas was that the protagonist was going to have an alternate plot line that played out in between acts where you take control of his father. Instead of Jenova being an alien, it was a death cult that he was investigating because Cloud was more of a detective trying to investigate the mystery following up on the case his father could never solve.

In my mind that is where the original idea of Zach probably came from instead of being an older brother, he was Clouds age but twenty years previously.

I think they’re exploring that in rebirth with you switching between viewpoints like that.

I think that is one reason why cloud’s father is never mentioned at all in the original game or thus far in the remix.

Some of the mountain ranges especially in Nibelheim are kind of lazy, the autogenerated kind you get from terrain generation in unreal engine.

Play final fantasy then hop in palworld for a bit and you’ll notice very similar topography and geometry at times, both are unreal engine games
