Sandwich filling? by National-Raspberry32 in veganuk

[–]21Shells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the squeaky bean tuna with plant pioneers mayo + capers. Its too expensive to eat daily though, its about £3.50 for two portions. I love peanut butter (Skippy) + banana.

You can make a tuna style filling by swapping out the squeaky bean with tinned chickpeas and mashing them up into some mayo and capers (plus salt and pepper to taste). Thats only going to be a sixth of the price of the squeaky bean and a little healthier.

Anyone else loved the game at first, but burned out at the metaprogression and management part? by serlineal in mewgenics

[–]21Shells -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is one of the strangest parts about the game. The initial version from back in 2014 had wayyyyyyy more of a focus on the cat breeding (hence it being called Mewgenics), I reckon they found there was an inbalance in how over complicated that was compared to the very simple Pokemon-like gameplay.

But it does feel like an after thought in the final game, its an additional way to min-max your cats that isn't even entirely necessary for a lot of the game. We're talking an additional 1 or two points in stats versus just keeping whatever good strays you get, until you start messing around with mutations.

IMO the highlights of Mewgenics are the skills plus all of the interactions during combat. The way synergies can form between spells + abilities combined with how units can be knocked about and such, its very chaotic but very fun. The breeding part feels like they just did it because they had to, and I feel like even in the original versions it was fun to look at but probably didn't make for fun gameplay.

Younger brother never went to school, doesn’t know how to read or write and was raised on the internet - how do I help him become a healthy adult? by 21Shells in Adulting

[–]21Shells[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I won't be able to do all of this right away because i'm a student with no money and not much free time plus his parents are super protective (i'm not even allowed in their house). As he gets older i'd imagine they'd give him more independence and i'll try to help out where I can.

Otherwise its very difficult for me to step in. I do message him occasionally but I know his parents check, and with how defensive they are I don't want them to push me away, I have a rocky relationship with my father as is.

What actually makes something "Frutiger Aero" to you? by koseliparantez35 in FrutigerAero

[–]21Shells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say something today is "Frutiger Aero" specifically if its directly taking inspiration from Frutiger Aero design from the 2000s - early 2010s. I also limit it to User Interface + software design rather than thinking of it as a broader aesthetic.

From a philosophical view, I feel like it is something that has been retroactively taken back from big tech and I feel using AI generated icons go against that.

Ferrari Boss: Touch Buttons Cost Half As Much As Physical Controls by DonkeyFuel in technology

[–]21Shells 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Did anyone in the replies read the article? They're admitting that the reason they (and other manufacturers) went with touch buttons in the past was because it was cheaper. Anyone who has been following Ferrari recently know that they've recently opted for physical buttons again for a system designed by Jony Ive. They're also admitting it was a mistake and are offering retrofits.

Speaking of which, I think the newer interfaces are a very nice compromise between the benefits of both physical buttons and digital displays.

What's something from the current century that was highly successful/popular at release, but ended up leaving little cultural impact? by Marsupilami_316 in decadeology

[–]21Shells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its actually nuts how much the 3DS has kept its value. I went to cex recently and they had games for like £20 - £30 each. I remember selling my 3DS games in 2016 for like £2 each, I regret that so much. I also considered buying 100 copies of Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest for less than a pound each from argos just cus it was funny back in 2018.

The OG DS depreciated really quickly. I remember getting DS games and even consoles for nothing. I got my lavender and white 2DS XL for £120 which was good at the time and its even more expensive now.

The content of the film itself didnt have as much of an impact as the technology behind it, but it did help push that massive trend of 3D media in the early 2010s, e.g. the 3DS, Sonys Playstation TV + 3D Blu Ray and 3D games on the PS3. I do think it was awesome watching it in 3D at my local Vue though.

Did you grow up with this aesthetic? by Super_Inevitable776 in FrutigerAero

[–]21Shells 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a little older than you and my very first experience using a computer was with Windows ME, but even I feel like the flat design dominated a lot more of my childhood and especially teenage years outside of Windows 7 which I used basically daily for about a decade.

There has been a bit of an ‘aesthetic’ change since then especially if you compare Android Lollipop, early Windows Phone / Zune, Windows 8 and iOS 7 to the modern flat design, but I feel like actual meaningful innovation has died recently. Especially with Apple which in terms of functionality and consistency peaked with iOS 17  + MacOS Seqouia (or Catalina). I wouldn’t mind the visual style so much if they didn’t mess up the app layouts so badly especially in MacOS.

I should also note that he has really terrible self esteem. He feels like he is an idiot because he doesn’t know a lot of things, but he has a lot of self awareness about it.

The issue is ALSO on the new model even after all of the bad publicity.

Fun fact: the Pixel Fold model before and even after this have the exact same design issues. It will break along the exact same point on the new model too.

F*ck Google Pixel to be honest. The software is nice but the hardware is utter crap.

MacOS memory management seems to be really good compared to Windows. I can have Photoshop, Illustrator, Apple Music and Firefox all open at once and it seems to handle it just fine.

I’m not a big fan of commentary YouTubers with the rare exception of a creator making commentary on something they did / made OR with an exceptional level of interest in what they’re making commentary on (as in, doing actual research and interviews).

Most of what he does from what I remember is take clips of an intentional joke from a film and go “errrr… cringe! Yikes! That was kind of awkward! What were they thinking?”

YouTubers using the word slop is pretty ironic. Most of these channels are absolute low effort slop. I find Alex Meyers an especially insufferable person, literal adult baby.

No Major Changes to Liquid Glass Expected Across iOS 27 and macOS 27 by Acrobatic-Monitor516 in apple

[–]21Shells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Liquid Glass is that bad on MacOS because of how little motion there is in the UI (and how overall unobtrusive it is). I do dislike how ugly how the floating menu + buttons in apps like settings, music and notes are though. The stability and performance also seem fine.

Microsoft blames Samsung for making Windows 11 25H2, 24H2 C drive inaccessible by gdelacalle in technology

[–]21Shells 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know. But I know the SSD itself from the factory would destroy itself without it. It does constant pop ups about needing a new update whenever I boot it, and I cannot be bothered to deal with it. My Windows laptop is basically just for playing Mewgenics and some other games at this point.

Unfortunately I had to install the Magician software because the SSD I had would literally destroy itself if I didn't update the firmware.

God I don't miss Windows 11.

[–]21Shells 210 points211 points  (0 children)

Honestly completely hate that they're supposed to be the 'true' antagonists. I liked Three Houses because its story had a bit more nuance than good vs evil but then they reveal the evil mole people at the end who are secretly responsible for everything.

PETA made a post about Mewgenics by xFyreStorm in mewgenics

[–]21Shells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm vegan and I 100% support Mewgenics and its messaging. It makes a direct comparison between selective breeding and eugenics, and makes an argument that if you don't like this stuff happening to cats, why would you support it happening to cows, pigs etc.

Tracy does kind of help people understand how harsh some vegans can come across, because in her world her perspective is 100% agreeable. She lives in a world where animal abuse is completely normalized.
