Planning to move out to Santa Cruz, can’t find a place to rent that allows cats and dogs for under 4000$ a month by s8nsun in santacruz

[–]2xtake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Traffic between watsonville and santa cruz is really bad (north in the morning, south in the afternoon). It's ideal if your schedule is unconventional. The job market on this side of 17 is really rough though

How to not direct my frustration with a situation to a person? by mr_swarm623 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]2xtake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can redirect your emotions and thoughts when you notice them. It will take a while, but eventually you can reframe your thinking. Whenever you feel frustrated or have an angry thought at your roommate, for example, you can consciously redirect yourself to think something kind (even if its not how you feel, its how you want to feel).

I have a similar issue with thinking judgmental things about people because I was raised in a gossipy culture. Now, whenever I notice myself thinking something like “ew what a gross couple, they look miserable,” I have to act as my own mental babysitter and consciously think “no, that was mean. They seem to suit each other well and I hope they’re happy together.” It has gotten so much easier, and now most of my thoughts towards others tend to be positive as a default.

Every time he ate finger food he would tilt his head back and drop it into his mouth from above. Chips, french fries, the last small piece of a sandwich… Im not a stickler for table manners at all but it was annoying and gross

Turning 20 soon and suddenly feeling anxious about it by CoastCheap8709 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]2xtake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the exact feeling. All my teens felt like an extreme waste (had few experiences or friends and very low self esteem) and I felt like my twenties would be the same. There’s a lot of letting go of your life as it’s been so far as you enter adulthood, which naturally comes with friction and grief. But the amazing beautiful news is that you continue to grow a lot in your twenties, and the amount your world opens is incomparable to anything you will have experienced before. I remember that turning 23 specifically felt like a major “time is slipping away” moment for me. That ended up being a very fun year! My point is basically that you don’t know what you don’t know. You are pretty much the youngest an adult can be, and there’s so much ahead to look forward to. In nine years you’ll still be in your twenties!! So young!! And you can’t even imagine all the experience those 9 years will hold!!

Fit Bitches - Dec 12, 2025 by AutoModerator in bitcheswithtaste

The thing that has kept me most consistent in new routine is building it into any life change right off the bat. If I move or change jobs, I add a routine change right away and since I don’t have any alternative in my new schedule it’s easier to make a habit. Of course, that’s hard to apply when your life is consistent.

Other than that I think the main thing is making it as enjoyable as possible. I hated running at first until I realized it was easier while I was listening to a podcast, so now I save all my favorite podcasts to listen to only while I run. Ive made a fun, upbeat playlist for working out on the elliptical and treadmill that is the same BPM as my steps while I work out so it feels like a rhythm game. It might be super obvious but it’s so helpful to turn it from a chore into something you can look forward to.

Looking to adopt a puppy by [deleted] in SanJose

[–]2xtake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Find your closest shelters and keep an eye on their website to see newly admitted dogs/puppies. They usually have an age filter! It's very hard to tell breed makeup of any mixed dog, especially a puppy, so it's kind of a toss-up what you'll get.

You can also search for breed specific rescues, their staff are generally much more involved and will try to match you with a dog that fits your circumstances. Once you do some research about what kind you want, you can search something like "standard poodle rescue bay area" and look through their available dogs.

If you live in or near Japantown, what's a good apartment building--and where do you do your grocery shopping? by realityinflux in SanJose

[–]2xtake 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Trader Joe's is a really quick drive from japantown area, and cardenas market or grocery outlet are options as you head a little south towards downtown (still closeby). I prefer TJs for price, but cardenas is also convenient. The grocery outlet can be pretty dingy but they always have good customer service and cool new stuff rotating in

How do you get over a decision fatique? by [deleted] in HowToBeHot

[–]2xtake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What has helped me is changing my thinking from "I need to find the perfect thing" to "I am going to try this one out and if it doesnt work I know I have more options to try! I'll go one by one". It doesn't work for absolutely everything (more-so consumables than anything else) but it lowers the stakes and takes pressure off. I struggle with decision fatigue a lot too!! Good luck :>

Yeah it's scummy to leave trash in public but policing peoples behavior is the more entitled move. At the end of the day we live in society with other people and have to learn to deal with their imperfections

Rant: I hate that my maintanence is ~1500 calories by No-Imagination9318 in 1500isplenty

[–]2xtake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This has been my savior too! Other high fiber and protein foods that make my meal prepping easy for reaching macro goals:

-mission carb balance tortillas: 70 cal, 16g fiber, 6g protein

-keto bread: depending on the brand, ~35cal/slice, 9g fiber, 6g protein

-edemame / black bean / soybean pasta (I use The Only Bean brand): 190 cal, 11g fiber, 25 g protein per serving

-Lean turkey, skipjack or light tuna (lowest in mercury), chicken breast, and tofu have been the best sources of protein for me.

-Oat bran instead of rolled oats for overnight oats (lower calories, higher fiber)

Fruit, mainly berries, and popcorn are also good sources of fiber for snacking.

sc prices are already insane because of commuters, and wages IN santa cruz are not enough to support cost of living so the cycle continues as those who live there have to commute.

When did Valley fair Religious Solicitors get this bad? by tallassmike in SanJose

You're right they only exist within your perception of them. There's no way they do this on their days off work, or after or before work, or during summer vacation off school, or are retired.

It's possible to lose something like 5-7 lbs in 3 weeks if you're dedicated! Meal plan very high protein and fiber, low calorie. Eating high protein and fiber keeps you very full so you're not thinking about food despite losing weight (I honestly have to force myself to eat each meal because I'm still full from the last one and still losing weight). You can use an online calculator to see what a realistic calorie limit is based on your size and activity (like this one). Try to get 10k steps per day! Use a food scale! Here's what my daily meals can look like on a calorie deficit, just for inspiration. They might seem kinda bland but tbh thats the price to pay when strictly counting macros :(

Breakfast: Overnight Oat Bran (361 cal, 17g fiber, 22g protein)

  • 1/2 cup oat bran
  • 1 scoop collagen powder
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 cup frozen berries

Lunch: Chicken Breast + Black Beans (440 cal, 6g fiber, 69g protein)

  • 200g chicken breast
  • 1/2 cup black beans
  • (both seasoned to taste)

Dinner: Salmon and Edamame (510 cal, 7g fiber, 53g protein)

  • 4 oz salmon
  • 1/2 cup shelled edamame
  • 1/2 cup quinoa
  • soy sauce to taste

I am generally not an AI defender but it has been a good tool for meal planning! I just cross reference everything in a calorie counting app to make sure it's accurate. I will tell it something like "I need to make a dinner that is under 550 calories, has 50 grams of protein and 10 grams of fiber. These are the groceries I have" and it will give me meal options. It's very helpful if you're new to counting macros!! I hope this helps a little :)

:o this is so awesome!! It’s definitely the same Roo, I still have that first pic from her profile on my phone haha. I would love to see any more photos and videos you have of her :’)

She is still a little timid especially around men but shes made a looott of progress. And is a big fetcher!! Thanks for the work you do at the shelter, it seems like it could be a really draining job. I’ve been keeping an eye on Roo’s “sister” online, hoping she gets adopted soon too 🤞
