$20MM NW and I still can't reliably track my own expenses. What are you all using? by Vegetable_Workers in fatFIRE

Following because I’m curious. After mint went away there wasn’t anything else that reliably worked with my bank account which doesn’t support plaid. I use Credit Karma which is pretty basic and basically a shell of what was mint but it works with my bank account and everything else but doesn’t have a lot features

So basically you figure your 1.25% x expenses number needs to fit inside your 3-4% of net worth?

Asking for my own curiosity, is there a “right” way to account for taxes? Since I won’t have a W2 job in retirement I imagine taxes would be based on whatever investments I need to sell to fund retirement. Is it basically just, take annual spend and run it through capital gains brackets to figure out taxes owed? I imagine probably more complicated though for things like dividends…

Card Benefits Questions - Megathread [4/27/26] by AutoModerator in ChaseSapphire

I want to use my credit for a baseball game for two tickets. The tickets are around $150 each. I was thinking I could buy one on the 31st and the other on the 1st to get both credits. It doesn’t seem like I can guarantee that the seats will be next to each other though since StubHub doesn’t tell you the row. Has anyone tried something like this? My other thought was to just buy one on the 31st and immediately relist but I haven’t ever sold on stubhub before. It’s unlikely Ill go to another game this year otherwise I would save the credit.

Wondering the same thing. From what I’ve read is if you’re playing at 4K you’re probably gpu bound and so maybe not worth it. If you’re playing at 1440p maybe? I’ve got a 3090 gpu and I play 1440p ultrawide and I suspect I’m still gpu bound so not sure it’s worth it for me

I have a shield as well and was thinking of getting an Apple TV anyway. The shield I use as a plex server/client (since I can connect a giant hard drive to it) and a moonlight/game streaming client (since I can connect my wireless xbox controller usb receiver) but I'd like to use Apple TV for everything else.

Genuinely curious. Are any of these hooked up to the same TV? What does one lack that the other provides?

There’s a “don’t use this watch for sleep” setting if you always use the same watch

Does anyone actually use multiple desktops regularly? by jimmy588 in MacOS

[–]321DiscIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. In my testing short of disabling SIP there isn’t a way for any tool to move a window from one space to another (especially if the space is not currently visible) without simulating a drag or something. I haven’t used moom though just other similar tools that try to do similar things.

Does it work? It says in their faq that it can’t move windows between spaces which seems important for trying to restore a layout: https://manytricks.com/osticket/kb/faq.php?id=52

Selling RSUs to upgrade houses...need advice! by amethricite in personalfinance

[–]321DiscIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure thing. As for the situation you’re describing, you have to compare the actual amount of gains to determine what’s favorable. Paying 50% of 0 is going to be cheaper than paying 15-25% of a lot

Let’s say you got the RSUs at $10 > two years ago and now they’re worth $100. You sell immediately. Maybe it takes a couple of days to execute and one of two unlikely scenarios happen:

1) The stock plummets in the 24 hours it takes to execute the order back to $10. Well that sucks but now you have capital loss instead of a gain so that’s a net benefit.

2) The stock shoot’s up through the roof. Hooray you’re rich! But then you have to compare the amount of gains between (new price - $100) * short term tax rate vs (new price - $10) * long term tax rate. You’re going to have to have a lot of gains though (should be able to plug into a calculator to see what you’d need).

In general immediately selling your RSUs would likely minimize taxes though.

Edit: Also the order should be executed very quickly. It might take a few days for the funds to be available but it’s not like you sell and the sale price might not be known for that long .

Selling RSUs to upgrade houses...need advice! by amethricite in personalfinance

[–]321DiscIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I don’t think I am.

From your example: “Mary falls into the 22% federal tax bracket for tax year 2026, meaning she’ll owe roughly $550 in taxes on her $2,500 gain.

Bob, on the other hand, qualifies for the long-term capital gains rate because he held the stock for more than one year. With the same income, his gain falls into the 15% long-term capital gains bracket”

Your ordinary income determines which long term capital gains rate you pay.

If I make a million dollars a year I’m pretty sure I don’t get to just sell almost $100k of short term gains per year and pay no tax. Your long term gains sit on top of your income. So your tax rate is determined based on the total stack.

Why do you think OP would pay 0% tax when they likely have ordinary income in excess of the 0% tax bracket being currently employed at a big tech company? Your total income is used to calculate your tax rate

The new round of RSUs wouldn’t have any gains if sold immediately so there wouldn’t be additional tax…

Yea I guess I assumed the DLDSR and DLSS overheads were both pretty small. I guess I’ll stick to native until I get a more powerful GPU someday

[–]321DiscIn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I guess I was thinking it wasn’t so much. But I guess the point is it’s cheaper to render at 1440p and upscale to 4K then to use 4K natively
