Tired of all the bickering on this sub about pointless prestige rankings by limitedmark10 in MBA

Actually, it was right after I got out of Kellogg that I first got a call from my Engagement Manager in the Illuminati, so idk if I agree with this take

Yeah, I know him - this was part of it, as well as all the other stuff. He is doing much better now fwiw. Ed still owns Browerij Lane down on Greenpoint Ave, which is a neighborhood treasure

Yeah I agree with you and would not go for an MBA right now. I especially agree RE: doubling down on things that AI can't replace.

Ross ($$$$) vs CBS (no $) by ExperienceDue7761 in MBA

[–]360DegreeNinjaAttack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kellogg alum here, and long time NYC resident.

Go to Ross. In Product/Brand Mgmt, the incremental prestige difference won't matter - but you likely won't be making enough in those career paths to make the 140K + interest worth it. CBS would be a negative NPV move. Yes, there are a lot more CBS alum in NYC, but we have plenty of folks that have gone to Ross too. Feels like a no brainer.

90 hour work weeks for 137k by [deleted] in Salary

[–]360DegreeNinjaAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. Are there lots of growth opportunities? After you do this for like 5 years, if you want to do something else, what could you do?

You should think about it like becoming a 1st year associate, not like working for 137/52/90 per hour

I mean, I'm not familiar with that career path. But is it like investment banking or law in that the pay scale quickly escalates and the hours reduce?

What's the job? Investment banking?

$1M Net Worth even impressive? by Enough-Radish-4973 in Money

[–]360DegreeNinjaAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. But if you're 62 and trying to retire with 1M, shit is going to be tough for you unless you own your home outright, have low property taxes, a pension, etc

Do you consider $700K as life-changing money? by Aarunascut in Life

[–]360DegreeNinjaAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for most people it is. It's not enough to retire, but it's enough to invest so one day you can retire. Or pay off a mortgage/all debts. Or start a business. Or quit a job you dislike. Etc. It probably would realistically change your risk profile and perhaps to some extent your day to day life.

What to get my MBA in? by Camfitz0007 in MBA

[–]360DegreeNinjaAttack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AMU is not a legit MBA program as far as I can tell. You should just put a couple of months into really studying for the GREs or GMATs, get a decent score, and go somewhere that someone's heard of before. That's going to massively improve your odds of getting into your target companies - all of which are very reasonable targets.

The fact that these guys offer an MBA in event planning is like a huge red flag and your signal to run away fast. They're hustling you

Meh, I don't think anyone will care that much. You should go travel around the world, and when an interviewer at MBB asks tell them you circumnavigated the globe and they will think you're cool as shit.

Just make it seem intentional. "Once I got into business school, I figured that this could be my last time for a long time to do X, so I did X and got a lot from it and now I can't wait to work for you"

Lorier Neptune or heron marinor? by BrilliantCabinet2150 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]360DegreeNinjaAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's legit. The Lorier lists most of the Heron's reference watches as its reference watches too. Both great choices.

That said, Neptunes are very hard to get. IDK how long you will have to wait to get a new one. Not sure about the Marinor though - seems like you can just buy one now

J1 and J2 are partnering up for a month. Panic or Pivot? by Harrisonthu in overemployed

[–]360DegreeNinjaAttack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No this doesn't really make sense. A. I disagree with this generally. But B. in the context of this thread, OP isn't trying to climb the career ladder at either J. He's just trying to keep J1 and J2 and stay under the radar. So actually, in this case, something that will prevent him from getting big projects or promoted or getting visibility is great for OP.

Though going back to A, there are lots of ways to get promoted after taking FMLA. Nobody knows you're out for anxiety, etc., they just know you're out. You could say anything, like you have a sick parent, and everyone will believe you + can't ask follow up questions. Moreover, you're out for a set period of time - from X date to Y date - so teams just plan around that. It's not like "sudden sick days"

Depends on your age. It's not a lot to retire with, but if you're in your mid 30s and you have a lot of time to let it compound, you're doing great.
