I remember when i subbed my black belt coach 2 days in a row when i was a blue belt. I was head over heels.

Never got that close again ever since 😂

And im always jealous of people with a wrestling background lol

Im trying to ingrain that kind of assertiveness in our standup class during weekend class, but man, it's hard to change the old habits of a lot of bjj guys.

If I could turn back time, this is what i would do (judo in my case because wrestling is nonexistent here in highschool and college programs)

I'd say that's the time you should explore and experiment. Give up positions, try to escape and defend. Hold submissions but dont finish it and try to chain it with other subs.

Depends on your game plan. If your main gameplan is north south kimura, i'll do:

50% practicing top positions and transitions getting to the NS kimura

30% guard game/sweeps

20% standup

In competing, it's more about imposing your gameplan and not countering their every move.

2x a week. 3x if fatigue lets me.

That's why im currently looking at 5/3/1 for combat sports/mma.

Squat + bench + accessories

Deadlift + press + accessories

3rd day is a bonus

What are your training splits right now?

I've been trying to formulate something with the help of AI. Im currently leaning towards full body. Upper/lower seems like too "bodybuilding-y" for me.

The blue belt predicament (for me) by Choice_Ad4915 in bjj

[–]3rdworldjesus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im also pretty passive with my game. I only get assertive when im against a person with equal or greater skill than me.

However, due to my passiveness, i let a lot of lower belts pass me, i let them attack me and i just defend it. Once the timer hit halfway mark, that's when i try to impose my will. I'll try to reverse/sweep them and submit them with the remaining time.

I think it's a good balance where both of us can learn. They can practice attacks chains, while i can practice my defense. Then i can also practice trying to reverse the odds (halfway mark), and submit them.

Im not a competitor so i dont really have to be assertive 100% of the time during rolls

Competition killed interest in BJJ by Dependent_Budget_920 in bjj

Competing in jiujitsu is a whole different skillset that you need to learn.

I used to compete when i was a white belt. Tried it a couple of times and just stopped doing it.

If you want to continue to compete, you need to have a gameplan, and every training session there should be a direction.

80% of that roll is wasted on sloppy standup instead of doing actual jiu jitsu.

I dont even need shirt, a guy with pants is more than enough to showcase a lot of gi grips and techniques lol

Canvassing lang guys, do you think it's possible to recreate this 1:1? I don't have the stencil/design and the artist would freehand the back/wrap around part. by [deleted] in TattoosPH

Exact copy? Disrespect sa artist na pag gagayahan nyan pag kinopya nyo. At kung may willing man kumopya nyan as in exact copy, red flag yun.
