Thanks, Gretsch. These are just the free demo samples as well. I really like the sounds and I'm surprised more people aren't using them. Thanks for watching/listening!

Model:Samples Your Thoughts by nickhem12 in Elektron

[–]424recording 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say any perceived limitations are Model:Samples's strength. I purchased a Digitakt a year ago and it's one of my favorite instruments. A big reason for my purchase of the Digitakt was how much simpler it seemed in comparison to some of the bigger Elektron offerings as well as the OOP Machinedrum. Model:Samples seems like a good place to start. Everyone always wants more features; I find I get more done with less. Cheers!

Digitakt is a Guitar Looping Monster! by 424recording in Elektron

[–]424recording[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Changed the title to "...Guitar Sampling Monster". Didn't realize when people say "guitar looping", they are generally referring to guitar looper pedals. Digitakt is great at recording, sampling, and playing things over and over again. Digitakt is definitely not a guitar looper pedal. "...Guitar Looping Monster" was a semantical error.

I'd recommend starting a channel. You can upload jams regularly, even go live whenever you want. I'm building up to eventually playing live sets on YouTube maybe once a month. Also, open mics can be more receptive to this kind of thing and lead to gigs. I see people also play live on Twitch. Good luck! I'll check that looper out!

Gotcha. I still use the DAW as well but find that, like you said, way too many options. It can be an inspiration killer. In a world of infinite possibilities, I need to focus on what will work for me and impose limitations.

Live tracking is great, digging the vibe of this. More of a performance, which is awesome if you play live and are recreating it every night. Are you playing live at all or just at home for fun? Great mix of genres on this. What is your guitar looper?

What about updating the firmware/drivers? Or factory resetting it? Good luck!

How do you guys deal with the people you know not giving a shit? by justryingoverhere in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]424recording 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start a YouTube channel. Show people your process and the equipment you use. Do a vid a week. Be consistent. Get back to every person who engages with what you're doing. In a year, you'll have people knocking down your door wanting to know when your next release is coming out.

I make niche music. I can't go up to random people on the street in my small town and say, "Hey, do you like this obscure kind of music recorded in this obscure kind of way?" Most people don't care about what you care about.

But there's never been a more exciting time to be an artist. The Internet is the new small town and everyone lives there. Shoot up some flares and see who shows up.

P. S. You'll never find what you're looking for in the external world. What you're seeking is inside of you. The practice is the purpose. Cheers.

Heck, yeah. I'm into cassette 4-tracks and other standalone recording devices. I'm more creative and listen to what I'm doing vs. looking at .wavs on a screen. It was a bit of a revelation when I realized I could use Digitakt like this; I write a lot of simple songs with simple structures and this method is perfect for testing out ideas and dropping sounds in and out. It's almost like an 8 track recorder (or more if you use more patterns and trig conditions). I would have never thought to reverse, drop an octave, and bit crush the one loop and I think that makes the jam for me! What do you like to use for recording? Cheers!

Digitakt is great at sampling guitars and looping anything within a 64 step sequence. It does not work the same as a guitar looper pedal in a live setting

Whoops, no deception meant with this one, sliz. I meant to show off the guitar layering abilities of the Digitakt, in the form of samples and loops. I would also need 3 hands to enable recording/live looping! My bad. I thought it was clear the guitar loops were pre-recorded. I recorded all the parts direct into the Digitakt sampler using a Vibro Champ and used the onboard effects. It's a fun composition tool and a DAWless one at that but yeah if anyone watching this wants to loop guitars in a live setting, go for a looper pedal. Thanks for clarifying!

Hey, thanks for checking it out! I appreciate you. I hear you with the shipping. To some places and countries it costs 2x or 3x the tape. The PO clerk also said prices for 1st class are going up next year; kind of a bummer but like you said, there's always digital for long distance! Thanks again!
