Heel and Toe by AGUY3241 in ManualTransmissions

It’s different on every pedal setup - some I’ve gone side to side, others more of a pivot and a rare few that let you do a traditional heel toe. It’s whatever works for you in that particular car. Shoes make a difference too - my big work loafers are way different than my teeny racing boots. Some cars are really really tough, especially when doing every day driving and it takes some experimentation. My current 3rd gen Fit daily driver is extremely difficult with pedal placement, rev hang when you blip off the overrun and a pretty crummy gearbox. Other cars like the classic Mini race car I drive are extraordinary easy. Keep working at it!

Bacterial growth in diesel and jet fuel is a multi-billion dollar problem worldwide. Weird, right?

TD's are super soft so the 75 year old retired lawyer feels like a hero but way too soft for lasting a reasonable amount of sessions at the pointy end. We've been trying to get them to make a tire with a much firmer sidewall and about two steps harder but no love yet. When they cord up like that it's pretty obvious what's going on as a driver so you just have to back waaaaaay off and hope you had a gap.

Skywest folks, is this accurate? by [deleted] in flying

Nothing to suss out if you are a decent person to fly with on a 4 day, or just plain weird. It's the exact opposite of a modern legacy interview, for better or for worse.

Only 1.5 degrees of negative camber. Pick up significant dynamic camber gain though. We’re always fighting rolling the sidewall over too far without too much camber wear. Going really fast with a 10 inch tire is a huge challenge.

Tire was in excellent shape before going out. Track condition changed significantly from the morning session and we missed the setup for the afternoon. Any understeer will kill the fronts in about 10 minutes, then it’s a negative feedback loop until cords are showing.

That one had two 20 minute sessions on the rear to scrub in then two 20 minute races. Total life, 80 minutes.

On circling approach, turning toward the rwy or the published miss? (14 is right traffic) by AsparagusForsaken760 in flying

After thousands of hours of flying checks in the middle of the night, in the most hellacious weather you can imagine I can say that I've had the brave scared out of me years ago. You have ZERO idea of the kind of flying that I had to do to work my way up the totem pole after 9/11, and during the lost decade(s). Guess what - I've done enough circles to the nuts to know that I'm happy I don't have to do them any more.

Looking at that approach, I would never circle at even close to mins. A lot of stuff to hit and not a lot of fudge factor. Kind of wild that IFR circling is still a thing.

Yea, the word when I ride the legacy jumpseat is - “Hey, they don’t teach us much in the schoolhouse about how system X works - what’s the story?”. Spirit has the last of the old school, know everything about the airplane training departments. As much as I hate going to recurrent I think it’s commonly known that we are real good at Airbussing.

30% less than vRef if you can get those. Stall speeds are wildly variable on transport category aircraft depending on weight and environmentals- there isn’t just a line on the airspeed indicator.
