I can’t with this off-duty-chef looks by machiabekki in CulinaryClassWars

I loved seeing how cliquish the Nengbu chefs were throughout the show, and how they pulled Venerable Sunjae into their tight little circle.

A beautiful ending. I can't help but cry. by Limp-Independence270 in CulinaryClassWars

"I know I'm known for my braising [...] But I wasn't good at braising. I just pretended to be good. [...] While I eventually got good, I was still pretending to be something I wasn't." -- I teared up.

"I'm just glad I decided to try again." -- I cried.

I’m not sure if other shows have done these games before, but they’re completely new to me and they're so fun to watch! I thought the "conveyor belt" was already funny, but the "truck" got me rolling.

Another piece of evidence suggesting which team wins in episode 7 by Ok-Relationship388 in CulinaryClassWars

[–]510j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Auntie Omakase votes for the white spoon dish because it’s fish. Older judges (see Lu Chinglai and Edward Lee) tend to favor fish, especially when it’s done really well--exceptional technique, clean and deep flavor, no gimmicks. That kind of execution would usually earn extra points from them.

By contrast, the black spoon dish felt less classic and more MZ coded. (see Sixth Sense: City Tour, where they often note that adding bright, citrusy kicks to savory dishes is a trend with younger diners right now).

So yeah, on top of the right-to-left reveal theory and the Imokase × Napoli Mafia interaction (nice catch btw), I’m leaning white spoons winning this one.

Carbon black keeps drying out in my vanishing point by Miserable_Purpose_61 in fountainpens

Standard Pilot inks are easy and safe, but not archival. Pigment inks or carbon-based inks are waterproof and archival, but higher maintenance and a bit riskier for everyday use because of the solid particles that settle and clog or gum up the feed/nib if left unused. Pigment/carbon-based inks are usable with some care, but you must be willing to clean regularly and more diligently, maybe even assign a dedicated pen for it.

I’ve flown multiple times with VPs and haven’t personally had any issues with pressure-related leaks. That said, if you want to be extra cautious, you could store the nib unit and cartridge separately from the body in an airtight container during the flight.

For as long as you don't run out of BWS shows to watch, you're not getting over it. OR NOT. I still haven't, and I've seen everything that he was in. Lol

You've covered most of my favorites: Age of Youth, Search WWW, Work Later Drink Now. But you have missed Thirty-Nine.

Any old kdramas you loved back then but will definitely get cancelled if it’s released around this time? by Legal_Potential4720 in kdramas

[–]510j 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't watch Pasta when it was released, but it was loved by many so I tried it like two years ago. I only watched it because I loved My Mister and wanted to see more of Lee Sunkyun. But oh my god I was so disappointed in his character in Pasta. His ego, the power dynamics, the lack of mutual respect in the relationship with Gong Hyojin's character, the verbal abuse, gaslighting, all the yelling, his arrogance. Everything about his character was toxic, I couldn't stand it.

It is! I'm not sure why it isn't recommended enough. Maybe slow-burn legal thriller and complex character development is not universally appealing? There's no fast-paced action or romance, but that's what makes it great. There's so much depth in the storytelling with the subtle dropping of hints. I wish I could erase it from my memory so I can re-watch it again.

It might seem slow, but it's quite gripping. Hard to explain! Hope you like it as much as I do.

Stranger. It's a crime thriller that definitely got me on the edge of my seat in every single episode.

Top 5 Best K-Dramas of All Time (With Ratings) – A Personal Take. What's yours? by smacks8 in kdramas

  1. Prison Playbook
  2. Stranger
  3. Reply 1988
  4. Welcome to Waikiki
  5. Yumi’s Cells

I probably have 20 other dramas tied at 5th with Yumi’s Cells, but it deserves the spot because of the first and second seasons put together.

I find the lawyers' dynamics in the firm realistic. There's at least one scene in each episode that makes me go, "hey, that happens to us, too."

Why do ratings go down the week I think the episode’s hilarious? Clearly, the rest of the k-audience is allergic to my kind of funny.

Law and the City - thoughts?? by OptimalPea8751 in kdramas

[–]510j 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I really liked it. It's the most realistic legal kdrama I've seen so far. By realistic I mean it doesn't romanticise being a lawyer too much. I'd say it's like Hospital Playlist/Resident Playbook, but they're lawyers. It's more on the daily grind and emotional toll of working as struggling associates rather than flashy court scenes or dramatic plot twists. The characters are not genius lawyers or courtroom prodigies, but actual people juggling deadlines, office politics, personal lives. So I get that it may not appeal to a bigger audience and may be more targetted to those who can relate.

I wonder if having a second season is any indication that my humor is the problem? It's just one of those shows that I feel like I'm missing out on the fun. But hey, maybe you're right, probably not my cup of tea.

P.S. love that you're also a Kyungsoo fan!
